Marie, My doctor said not to use them. However, he says that taking ibupropen once or twice for cramping per monthly cycle won't really hurt. I haven't had cramps bad enough to try, but I take some comfort in knowing that occassional use is acceptable. Polly

Topic: 8/16ers - Almost 11 months!
Can you believe we are quickly approaching the 11 month mark? Not to mention the fact that we are almost 1 year post op? The ups and downs have been so frustrating for me, but I can't even imagine what my weight would be right now if I hadn't had the surgery. I thank God and my surgeon for this amazing journey. I am pretty confident that I will reach my surgeons 1 year goal for me by the time it gets here (-125 lbs), and also his final 18 month goal by Feb. 06 ( 150 lbs.). Hope everyone else is feeling great and is happy with their progress. Judy 359/242/165-185? -117

Guuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrlllllllllll - I am not at goal either. And now that I have been packing on muscle, I have quit gauging my success on the scale. I do still weigh, and I know any one pound I lose is straight fat. I got a body composition reading, and will use that as a gauge, and the last measure: clothes. I have one style of jeans that I will buy each time they get a little big. I started out in a 24 and have worked down to a 16. Now it is tough, because the next size down is not in 'plus' sizes anymore and I am noticing that sizing is different... I like to buy clothes that are a little small and then put them away because it is too tight. A month or so later, I take it out and quite often it fits very well! Really cool! I know how hard it is not to compare - you are doing fantastic - remember that! Nona

Topic: RE: Week of 8/3 people
Hello! I know, a year! Wild - my mind is still catching up with my body... I started out 310, now 186 - down 124. Began in size 28 jeans and wearing 16 now. (I can wear L and XL clothes!) Folks say I don't look like I am as heavy as I am.... I have been bodybuilding (weightlifting to gain muscle) HARDCORE for about 5 months now. I am filling skin out with heavier muscle. I haven't been doing any cardio type work since I started the lifting program - all my calories are meant to build muscle tissue... I am still losing - pretty slow, but I know ANYTHING I lose is straight fat. I am feeling good, looking terrific and people have been great fun as I have re-emerged.... Nona

The one my surgeon allowed was Bextra - now it is off the shelves. Because of my Deg.disc dis. my GP has done this: She prescribed an ulcer medication to use as a 'preventive' as it coats well. Then prescribed an anti-inflammatory i have never heard of... I can't remember the name right now. I suppose it depends on the severity of need. I would rather get an ulcer than continue to lose strength and muscle in my arms because i have a pinched nerve in my neck..... really I would rather not have either! The rest of those 'regular' nsaids - nope. I also use herb teas to treat.... Nona

Topic: RE: Comparison
Hi Jamie, Although I didn't have surgery on 8/16 (WLS 8/30/04). My beginning weight was 229 height 5"2'. Current weight 127. Having tummy tuck on July 20th. I don't compare my lose since no two people are alike even if they both started at the same weight and height. Best of luck to you. Marcy

Topic: Cost of Plastic surgery
I know it is crass to discuss the cost of things, but want to know the average cost of tummy tuck & breast lift. I have a flex spending plan available to me thru work, and can set up as much as $5000 a year. I want to know how much that is going to cover? Is that the cost of just the tummy tuck? Any of you out there that have had your PS, and are willing to discuss the cost please drop me a line. Thanks.
