Hi all, I am looking for profiles of members who have had open RNY surgery between the ages of 58-60. My mother is looking into surgery and is not computer literate and wanted to know how people in this age range are during surgery, recovering from surgery, and how their weight loss progresses. Thanks for your help and sharing your profile! Christie

Christie: Would your mother consider a lap band operation instead of the RNY procedure? I understand that the lap band procedure is much better for those who are older. There is little risk of malnutrition with it, since the intestines are not bypassed. The "pouch" is created by the lap band, and the procedure is reversible, if the patient wants. If you want more information, write me, and I'll put you in touch with my best friend, Sheryll Coleman, a surgeon's assistant in Birmingham, AL, and the lap band coordinator at Cahaba Valley Surgical Associates. She can give you and your mom much more information....and possibly refer you to a good surgeon in your area. ~Laura H

Laura, No my mom can't consider LapBand as her insurance won't pay for it. Thanks for you reply, Christie
