another HAIR question
Hi All
My Hair has always been my best feature and always got globs of comments and attention. It has always been silky, THINK, straight and long. Now it is so thin and fail and dry and feels like straw.......
I cut it in hope that having some of the weight off woul dlessen the hair loss. I have put my pretty barretts away wear it straight and cuase I am concerned that they weight to much and tear the fine hair I do have left.
I am told the hair loss will end.
So my questions is.....
Have any of you had significant hair loss?
When does the hair loss stop?
What can you do to help it look and feel better?
DOES it grow back?
How long before it does grow back?
Any help would be great.
Lisa.... ( no longer Repunzalle! )
Lisa, I feel your pain. I've always felt my hair was one of my best features as well. I feel like I'm almost bald. I really wi**** would stop. I read a while back that the hairloss cycle usually lasted 100 days more or less. Well, mine's been coming out by the handfuls since Christmas. I too got my hair cut thinking that would at least make it look a little fuller. Wrong. Nothing has helped. My endocrinologist tells me it will eventually stop and WILL grow back in. I sure hope it's sooner rather than later or I really will be bald. The only thing good about it is that my hair only takes about a minute to blow dry now. I don't have an answer, just wanted you to know you're not alone. Hugs, Barb
I just wanted to say i feel your pain. My doc said a normal person will lose around 100 hairs a day. I keep this in mind. Anyway my hair started getting really dry and brittle feeling. I found a new cream that is awesome and within a few days no more dry hair and you can use it everyday. It is by Neutrogena and is called Triple Moisture. It is basically a silk touch leave-in cream. You just wash your hair then put a thin coat on and it does wonders. Good luck to you. Oh and the hair does come back about 2 months ago I started feeling around my head and found little baby sprigs all over.

Protein, protein protein!!!!
Are you getting enough protein???
That is a big factor in hair loss. Mine is coming out a little bit, but not too bad, and has been for the past 4 months. This was a topic brought up at my support group last night, and it was said it can last 3 mos. or longer.
Good Luck!

That's what I was told, as well...Protein is the major factor. You will lose some regardless as your body adjusts to the new, lowered amounts of vitamins and minerals you are able to absorb, but you will lose a GREAT deal if you do not get in enough Protein.
Furthermore, you have to keep in mind that we can no longer absorb all of the Protein in foods. Hence, this is why the Docs tell us such high numbers for the protein they want us to consume...because it is not an already-broken down protein, and we don't get all of it. Since I use Pro-Stat (check the bottom of my profile if you'd like to read my review), and have since surgery, I have not experienced excessive hair loss. There was ONE month where money was tight, and I didn't order any Pro-Stat, and I THOUGHT I WAS GOING BALD!! I lost so much hair in that one month, I cried. And since I, too, had loved my hair (long, red, naturally curly) and thought it was one of the best things about me, it was a horrible strain to see it falling out.
So definitely keep your protein levels up, it is imperative that you do so to keep as much hair as possible.

Hey Lisa,
I know you have already heard this reply, but I thought I'd throw it in again for good measure...
PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN!!!!!
Your body NEEDS lots of protein... that's how it's able to build new tissue, cells, etc. Of course it uses the protein it gets first on the vital body parts (for your organs, muscles, etc.). Whatever's left gets used on the "Extras" like hair... Even if you're getting what you think is enough, try kicking it up consistantly and see if you don't start growing new hair in a couple of months.
We all lost hair originally as a side effect from being under anesthesia... it's totally normal. That should have been done around month 6 or so because it takes awhile for the hair to fall out after the surgery... but by now the majority of hairloss should be over with. We might still lose more than the typical person, but it should have slowed significantly by now. My advice is to speak to your Dr. again... you're too far out to be still having major hair loss UNLESS you're not getting enough protein, and then it would make sense.
Hope that helps!!! And it will eventually come back, so you can be Rupunzel again (not that you need to hide behind your hair anymore... I'm sure now your legs, tummy, smile, jaw, etc. can be your best feature!)
Lots of love,
Dawn

As for the protien thing, I was eating plenty of protein when my hair was falling out.
I had bald spots on the back of my head at the hair line and at my temples. It was bad. I started using Nioxin hair products (expensive, but they sell it at Hair Cuttery). The Nioxin didn't seem to help much. But then a friend told me about Biotin supplements. I started to take it, and the hair started to grow back. But I was still losing. Finally it stopped about 2 months ago.
ANYWAYS.... in short... there is nothing you can really do about the loss of hair, but getting your protien in and maybe trying some Biotin will help it grow back faster and healthier. The loss will eventually stop on its own.
Hope this helps!

Hi Lisa... personally I have not lost really any hair other than the normal daily amount... but I take a vitamin that has biotin in it and didnt know that till I really read the label and I have not had any thinning at all....
Good luck... from what I read your body will need to adjust.... but get in the protein....
