Vision Changes

I could tell that my glasses weren't right for me anymore, so I went for an eye exam today--my first since before WLS. As I suspected, my vision had improved dramatically since losing 100+ lbs. My glasses are not only the wrong prescription now, but they're constantly sliding down my face because they're so loose. It's funny the things that shrink that we don't really think about. I never considered that my eyeballs might shrink! I decided to get contacts for the first time in over ten years. I'm so excited! Anyway, if you wear glasses or contacts, you might want to get your eyes checked (if you haven't lately) just in case your vision has improved. My optometrist said she has several WLS patients who all had significant changes in their prescriptions following rapid weight loss. Go fig! ---- Leslie -102

I hear that Leslie... I just went and had my eyes checked and was told my sight had improved by two grades. I was shocked - I went in because my eyes felt strained, my contacts were blurry... of course I figured my vision was getting worse. Turns out my vision was getting better and my contact prescription was too strong for me...

Very interesting post. You know, my vision has always been really good, but since WLS, it has slowly become more difficult to read. I thought it was just "old age," but I'm just 41, so I think I may be due for an eye doctor's exam any way. We'll have to see how much---if any---my eyes have changed since surgery. I know my feet have shrunk....but I never thought that my eyes would change! Makes since though. Thanks for mentioning it. ~Laura

I really wish my vision would change for the better I couldn't read the big "E" at the top of the test way back when in 4th grade and it's only gotten worse since. I have had my vision checked recently and there are no changes in my prescription. I also now have the beginnings of GLAUCOMA- Yikes!!! they ran a bunch of tests. I know it has nothing to do with WLS though. I'm on eye drops to keep my pressures down. Kudos to you for your improvements. Sue H.
