6 months post-op!
Hi everyone!
I went and saw my surgeon today for my six month visit. I will officially be six months post-op a week from today.
I have lost a total of 77 lbs since my surgery, and now weigh 155 lbs! My BMI is 27.5!!! WOOHOO!!! When my BMI drops only 2.6 more points, I will be in the normal category! I weighed in my dietician last week and weighed 156, so I lost one pound this past week.
Here is something interesting my surgeon said. He said I am losing way too fast. This confused me, because I considered myself to be an average loser. He said that normally, people lose 50% of their excess body weight at the six month mark, and I have lost over 70%. He wants to see me in three months to monitor my weight loss; to make sure it has slowed down (his words). I found this fascinating. Don't get me wrong, I am THRILLED with my progress, but I never in a million years considered myself a fast loser! LOL!
He told me that I look good now; that I look healthy. That made my day! He feels that I should not weigh less than 125 and would prefer I weigh around 135. I do have a small frame, though, and think 125-130 would be better for me. We shall see. It is unreal to think I only have 25-30 lbs to go to get to goal. I can not even believe it!
All my labs came out great with the exception of one of my proteins which was a little bit low. He wasn't concerned, though, as this was the same protein that was low last time and the other protein was normal.
Just wanted to share with you all!
Hugs,
Denise

HI Angie,
Thanks for you kind words! You are a doll.
I have a question for you. I have read a few posts from you, including this one, and saw that you have lost 40 lbs since your surgery in August. May I ask what you typical days menu looks like? 40 pounds is great, and I am not trying to be rude, but maybe we can help you pick the loss up a bit.
My surgeon would say that your loss is normal, and it most likely is, but I know you are discouraged with it (I would be too..again, it is a great loss, but I would be impatient at this point).
Did you start out as a "lightweight" (weight at 240 or under)? How tall are you? Do you have a dietician? Do you know how many CM's of intestine were bypassed (this can be important)? Also, how big is your pouch? Do you count calories?
Hope to hear back from you. I think you have a great attitude and your weight WILL come off in time. But let's see what we can do to speed it up a bit.
Hugs,
Denise
Denise,
Congratulations!!! You're an inspiration to us all but, I have one quick for you or anyone out there.
How did you determine your goal weight. I'm 5'3" and I went on google and typed in "ideal weight" and, I found out that mine is 112 and I think that's rediculous. I guess I just don't want to be a skinny toothpick...but, I do want to be healthy.
HI Kelli!
I based my goal weight on what it would take to get me into the "normal" BMI category.
To get to normal, I should weigh 140, minimum. I figured I would aim for the low end/middle of what normal would be, and this would be my goal weight.
I also think 114 is ridiculous; too small, I would think. My sister is 5'3 and she weighs 109. Her doctor wants her to gain 10 pounds. Can you imagine? LOL!
I would be thrilled at 128-130. I think I would be happy at that weight.
Hugs,
Denise
HI Aimee!
How are you, sweetie? Not too shabby here.
I do have some pictures that I took when I was in Florida. I just have to get them off my friends camera because I didn't take mine. We plan on getting together tomorrow so hopefully I will post them on my profile at some point.
The pic I have on my profile is fairly recent, I think I was maybe 160 in that pic...can't recall exactly, but I think I put my weight right under the pic.
Anyway, will post new pics as soon as I can!
Hugs,
Denise
