Prior to this past weekend, I had absolutly no problems since my surgery and I am 5 1/2 months post op. I unfortunately became too comfortable with food and ate a piece of pork without chewing completely and had "severe"pain in my upper abdomin. I contacted my surgeons staff after hours and was told to go to the ER. I did and xrays showed nothing, was given a shot of morphine and a precription for vicodin and sent home. I was so knocked out all day, I never called my surgeons office during the day. Felt slightly better after I got up but didnt want to try and eat solids so I drank protein. In the evening I put a small bite of chicken in my mouth and when I swallowed, the pain was back and worse than teh day before, I felt like fainting. Back inthe ER, was given another pain shot and the next DR re-looked at my xrays and saw that I had a mild illius (obstruction). I was given meds for pain until I passed the obstruction, and on liquids for 2 days. The obstruction did pass, however, I have not felt well since. At times I feel sharp pains in my stomach and feel tired and my back is sore, almost like muscle pain. I will see my doctor in the morning, but wondering if anyone has had an obstruction before and what was done. I almost feel as though I ruptured something. Blood test both nights at the ER came back negative. They thought I had gall stones but my gall bladder was removed in 91'. Help???

I had a bowel obstruction which was caused by scar tissue at 2 months post op. Unfortunately I had to have surgery to unkink my intestine. My symptoms were; vomiting violently, dry heaves, dehydration, nausea, abdominal pain that even pain medicine did not take away. It was the worst experience of my life. I was hospitalized 3 times, the kink would come out on its own then it would come back. My surgeon decided that we was going to do emergency surgery on a saturday............As soon as I woke up from the surgery I knew he had fixed me the pain was gone...........Anyway, it has been 2 months since my last surgery and I am feeling great. I love my surgeon and thank god that he fixed me. I still have no regrets about my decision to have surgery. I am so sorry you are having complications...........I know how scarey it can be. Good Luck and keep us posted! You are in my thoughts! --Marianne

Hi there, I had an Illieus on day 7 after surgery. It was so painful. Vomiting, Nausea, PAIN...I was given anti spamatics for the stomach, morphine for the pain. I was so new after surgery that I was on liquids anyway. I was very sore for a week or so just from all the vomiting, etc. They decided to nothing for the blockage, just let it ride it course. I hope that is they same for you. I know I did not answer your question very well, but I hope I helped some...

Thank you guys for the info. I did see my Primary Care Physician todays and she ordered some blood tests and thinks it may be my pancreas. She may order a ultrasound after the results from the blood tests. I see my surgeon on Thursday. Little to no pain today and I am feeling better physically. Hopefully it will pass. We will see after the bllod test results. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks again.

Ended up in the ER again this weekend, feeling weak and every time I would go to stand up I would feel like passing out. I went to the restroom and found that I was passing dark maroon blood. After ER visit and seeing my surgeon and PCP today, I found out I have a bleeding ulcer either where my stomach is or where it was attached to my intestine. I have been on meds since Saturday and I am feeling better. Does not seem as though surgery will be needed to repair. Just bland diet and meds should clear it up. I am going to have to have a procedure though where a GI doc puts a scope down my throat to confirm where I am bleeding from though. I am just thankful it is not worse. Take Care.
