With the holidays coming around the corner I was wondering about wine drinking. I like a glass of wine occasionally and wanted to know if it makes people dump or is the sugar not enough to bother you? I haven't tried to drink any and might not anyway but I was just curious. Have a great day!!! Linda

I don't know much about drinking. But from posts that I've read on here I've heard that the alcohol itself turns into sugar, which can cause you to dump. I tried a few sips of a margarita this weekend and was so sick, and buzzed. It wasn't fun. Don't think I'll try it again for awhile. Good Luck. Angelina 253/205/140 -48lbs

I had my surgery on 8/31/04 and I had a frozen marguerita a couple of weeks ago. Well I should say my husband and I shared one. I was not sick and I didn't get a buzz. So I guess it is different for everyone. I also know someone else that is 6 months post-op and she has a beer occasionally with no problems. I would check with your surgeon as to his opinion about it. This whole thing seems to be trial and error. I figured I would try it and if it didn't go down good or caused me to be sick, I just wouldn't do it again. Good luck and have a good day! Tracie

This from a Lady that loves a "good" German wine. I have not touched wine in 6 months. Before surgery nor after. I know the wine turns into sugar and the effects probably double. Which translate into very high with very little wine. I do not want to risk dumping, nor do I want to be tipsy during my first holiday season as a new person. I want to enjoy the taste of good food (small amounts). With wine, I always would over snack and did not taste the real taste of the food. This is just my thoughts for me!

I tried to drink some wine the other weekend... and after two small sips... I had a buzz, no dumping but I wasnt going to pu**** either.... I use to drink a lot of crown and coke but two weeks before surgery I stopped drinking that.... that is one thing I miss the most.... Debra

Hi Linda, I am not trying alcohol at this point. I was told it can be toxic to a persons liver the first year out. Because our liver is working hard at breaking down the body fat.....the two together in the liver is not supposed to be a good combo. Been temted myself to have a glass of wine. For me I choose not to yet. Best to you. Mary RNY aug 4th 2004

Hey Linda, I have had a couple glasses since surgery and have had no problems. I feel pretty tipsy after about half a glass. I usually stop before I hit two. I am enjoying being such a cheap date. lol. It is different for everyone I guess. Good Luck to you. shelli

Hi Linda, Well.....I think I would like a little wine during the holidays as well, but I had 1/3 of a bottle of light beer a couple of weeks ago and...even though I didn't experience any dumping...let's just say that my husband cut me off. The alcohol hit me very fast and since I am not a big drinker to start...it felt really wierd to be tipsy after a few sips of beer. Oh well, maybe a small glass of wine spread out over an entire meal won't hurt. We'll see. Mandy
