I have recently developed a bad complexion. I haven't had this kind of problem since high school. You know the BIG HUGE North Start type of acne. Any suggestions on acne meds? I have sensitive skin so most otc products just make it worse.

Yolanda, I don't know what to tell ya. My acne has gotten better, but that might be the chlorine in the pool drying my skin out! Talk to your PCP and surgeon. It might not have anything to do with the surgery. Maybe a visit to a dermatologist will help? *~Amber~*

I'm with you, Yolanda. I don't think I had acne this bad even in my teens. I guess it's due to the major swing in our hormonal levels. I've heard it will get beter... just like everything else

Yeah, I think Amy's right. It must have something to do with the hormones that are stored in our fat and released with weight loss. I know the drastic reduction in how much oil and fat I eat has made may skin dry for the first time in my life! My hands and feet are scaly from dryness and I have to moisturize them every day. But my face is still breaking out really badly, especially the week before my period. Go fig. But I'll take acne over glucose intolerance and chronic back/knee/foot pain any day! --- Leslie 5'3" 282/223/135 RNY 08/03/04

I hear you gals on this one. I am breaking out all along my chin line. I don't ever break out unless I am going to have an especially rough period. It is making me feel like a teenager. I am chalkin it up to hormones. Let me know if anything works. Shelli

I had slight problems with acne my whole adult life. PCP said it is quite normal (I thought being an adult included the benefit of no acne.) She has me taking Tetracycline, using Retin-A and benzoyl peroxide soap to wash with (which may not be cool with sensitive skin) But, they work beautifully. The only drawback is the increased sensitivity to sunlight from the Tetrac. and RetinA - I don't mind it, because at 36 I am finally concerned about sun damage and aging. (I had a girl in class with me who was in her very early 20s whose skin cancer came out of remission before we graduated. It was sobering to say the least.) With that sensitive skin, definitely speak to a dr. hth Nona

It may be time to see a dermatologist. I have been working with mine since before my WLS. He's been very eager to see my results. My face is pretty clear, but I have a terrible boil problem that we try to keep under control with a host of acne medications and potions. I've been told it will clear up some when I lose more weight. We'll see. I am sorry about your facial acne. Talk with your dermatologist about it....or get your PCP to do a blood work on you. You may just need to take an extra vitamin each day. Maybe you're missing something in your diet that helped your face before? Good luck!!!!! ~Laura
