Dr. Phil...Friday 10/29
Leslie,
It's true. Generally he's anti-WLS.
But now that he has Carnie Wilson coming on the show, and apparently some of his guests need WLS to save their lives, maybe he'll change his mind.
I think that he believes only people with immediate need to lose weight should have the surgery. That wouldn't include me. I weighed 521 at my my first consult, but I didn't have any major health issues (thank God).
So, I guess we will see what he has to say.

I will try to tape it and check my local listings for the time. On discovery health channel they have a program called "Losing it" ( or something like that ) and they usually have alot of profiles for people who have had bypass or banding done. I can see some bias for having the surgery. It is a big responsiblity. If you do not take care of yourself prior to surgery having this surgery will not rewire your brain to start after surgery. I work for a health insurance carrier and have seen many horror stories. It was difficult for me to decide to do this. It was very emotional. Let's face it there is a stigma that goes with having had "the surgery". So it will be interesting to see where Dr. Phil goes with this. Also next year as plans renew some Health insurance companies are selling gastric bypass as a rider. So if your employer does not purchase the rider it is not a covered benefit. So many new changes coming this next year.
