Stopped Loosing!

I have been eating saltines, 1-2 with cheese or peanut butter maybe once a week. Wonder if that could be the problem? I do not eat any other carbs, except 1-2 bites mashed pototas ever week or so. I think the increase in protein may just be what I need. Others have solved their lack of weight loss by adding protein. I know some days I just do not want to eat and therefore my protein intake is down. I will try your suggestion. Thanks.

Marla, Instead of the saltines try a whole grain cracker like Reduced Fat Triscuits, they have more nutritional value and are much better for you. I eat either triscuits or wheatsworth crackers every day. It is important to get whole grains in your body, those types of carbs help with maintaining certain brain functions. I'd give up on the saltines and try something like that. Good Luck! JUDY

Hi Judy, I had not thought of triscuits. Nor had I any idea the importants of wholegrain and brain functions. Now that I do, I will change my crackers for triscuits. I much prefer them, or at least I did pre-op. I had dropped 1/2 lb this AM, so perhaps the non loosing struck is broken. It is such a bummer when one goes so long with out a loss.

I'm currently stalled for the third time in three months. Once I stalled for over two weeks (starting in my second week post-op), then I stalled less than a month later for about 10 days. This time, I lost 9 lbs in one week and then gained a couple back. Then I just STOPPED and haven't made any progress in over a week. It's just happening, and it seems to be out of my control. I'm attributing it to my monthly cycle because none of my other theories have panned out so far. My other theories have included: 1) Too many high-sodium choices causing me to retain water, but I cut them out and increased my water and saw no change 2) Not enough protein, but I added a (nauseating) shake a day and saw no change 3) Not enough exercise, but I went from 2 up to 4 sessions at the gym per week and saw no change 4) Too many calories, but I went from 800 per day down to 600 per day and saw no change I get enough water every day, so that's not it either. It seems my body is just holding onto the weight for its own mysterious reasons, but I'm getting cautiously optimistic that if I just keep plugging along I'll start losing again. I think I'm going to hit a mini-plateau every month. Aaargh! Anyway, I'd venture a guess that it's a similar situation for you. By all means, please try your own "experiments"--be proactive! Let us know if anything new you try seems to work so we can try it, too! ---- Leslie

Hi Leslie(my granddaughter's name), Thank you for your most helpful insight. I spoke with my daughter about my lack of loss and exercise. She has a personal trainer, wish I did! Her trainer told her to not stick to the same routine. If she is doing 20 minutes on the treadmill at 2.5 miles per hr, change. Do 5 minutes at 1.9, then 5 at 2.5. Next, do bike for 4 minutes and then go back to treadmill and do 4 minutes at say 2.5 then up it to 3.0 for 3 min and then down to 2.5 for 3 mins. Times and speed are just examples. In other words, change routine as our bodies adjust to routines. I will follow her advice and see what happens. I also increased my protein starting today. Water is a problem I need to work at getting 64+. Again, thanks for your input.

The last little while I've only been losing a pound here and there. It is certainly frustrating but I am sure it will happen for us. Patty

Patty, From the response I have had, this seems like a common problem. I just want it to start now and keep going until I reach my goal! I know there will be slow downs, but after all we go through to get this far....

Keep in mind, also, that when you lose alot of weight at one time, your body goes kinda into shock. It thinks, "She's going to starve. We better save some of this fat for when she doesn't eat." It's basically like ketosis. Another thing, for those of you who are exercising alot.... muscle weighs more than fat. You might be gaining in muscle what you are losing in fat. So the scale might not seem to move. BUT.... fat is bulkier than muscle, so try keeping measurements, too. Congrats to all on awesome weight loss so far!!! I have lost 58 pounds in 9 weeks! Talk to ya later! *~Amber~*

Hi Amber, I lost half pound per scales today. Perhaps the stall has come to an end for the time being. Congrats on your loss! You are doing something right.

My weight loss is slowing down now. BUT.... I have good news!!! I went to my PCP yesterday and he looked at my leg, said to up my anti-coagulant to 10mg, and cleared me for light activity!!!! I am SO HAPPY!!!!! I can go do light exercise now!!!!! So hopefully with the addition of exercise, I will begin to lose again! *~Amber~*
