hi my name is kathy and surg was 8/20/04. i am having problms getting enough protien and liquids in. i cant seem to drink enough during the day. i only pee twice a day is that normal? i drink around 40 to 64 oz a day. i eat about 40 to 60 grams of protien. dont tell me to do the shakes because they make me barf. i tried the protien bars and they made me sick. i am at my wits end as to what to do. i get three fifteen min breaks at work a day and not much else. it takes me just that long to eat a few bites of something then it is back to work. at home i can eat pretty much all day here and there and can get enough protien in. but i am worried about malnutrition and would appreciate any help! thanks

Kathy, I wish I knew what to tell you, but I am having the same problems. My surgeon is a little more slack on my requirements. I have to drink atleast 32oz of liquid and eat atleast 50g of protien. Most days I get just about 50g of protien, but I am struggling with the 32oz of liquid. I'm just not thirsty enough to drink alot. I have never been a good drinker. And when I force myself to drink I feel like I am going to barf! Anyways, I hope you get some good advice! *~Amber~*

I wish I knew what to suggest. Perhaps you could eat something like cheese sticks in the car on the way to and home from work to help up your protien. Maybe carry a bottle of water around with you and drink whenever you get a chance. Good luck Patty

Hi. I have found Isopure. I get it in the powder form at GNC. I put 1/2 of the liquid made with 1/2 crystal lite (pinapple-orange). The Isopure is very drying to your mouth that is why I dillute it. It is 50g of protein for 12 ounces. It is not cheap stuff, but it is definately worth it to increase your protein. Cheese sticks are good and easy. I have also tried peanuts. If you munch on those while you work you may enjoy it. I have school all day so I use these things. I enjoy the shakes so I do those also. I think the shakes really depend on the kind you get and how much you enjoy it. I hope you find a happy medium. Susan

I have the same problem. I can't get in that much liquid. I'm doing A LOT better than I was...but still it's at about 40 ounces! protein isn't so bad...but I can't get in 80. I can't snack because that keeps me from drinking. I HAVE to wait 30 minutes after I eat to drink! otherwise I will be sick. I just always make sure that whatever I put in my mouth it's protein. Chicken and I have never been closer! ;)

have you tried drinking carb countdown milk or eating carb countdown yogurt? i mix one of the cc yogurts with a glass of cc skim milk and blend it and get 24 g of protein. cc also has a smoothie that tastes great too, it has 13 g of protein. i usually dont like yogurt, but this stuff is pretty good. as for the water, i have to make myself drink it. good luck. Hi Kathy, my name is Sabrina and I am 3 weeks out and already I can agree with you, what I am finding is that having a scheldule and sticking to it works for me. I make sure that every 30 minutes I am rotating protien shake's and water. Keep trying the shakes until you find one that you like. I am trying CarbOptions they are pretty good with 20 gram of protien. Good Luck!

Wow, same problem here. I found I hate water, never did like it much. I love tea. I took some of the Lipton unsweetened tea in the bottle. I reminds me of my Pepsi bottle i used to drink gallons of. I brew my own tea, put it in the empty bottles and then add Equal to it to make it sweet. I then freeze it. When it's time to got to work, I pull out 3 bottles and take it to work. These are 24 oz bottles. It takes me all day to drink all three. Protein, well that's another story. Lot's of cheese and lots of broth, can't eat chicken, pork, beef. Some veggies. down 55 lbs. Try and find something you like to drink and then improvize.!!! I take 25 mgs of bp medicine still, 2 childrens muliple viatmins, chewable and sublingual b-12(it helps with energy). Also, I found that when I feel tired and think back I haven't had protein. I eat about 4 oz of protein and my energy level returns. It's my trigger to eat my protein. Hope this helps!

Hi, The shakes also made me ill. I am a Director of Food and Nutrition Services in a Hospital. The Dietitians have turned me on to Bariatrix Nutrition. You can find this on-line. They carry low calorie/high protein products such as chicken noodle soup, cream soups, hot chocolate, fruit drinks, pudding, bars. I'm telling you, this is the only thing I have been able to stand. You can hardly tell there is any protein in them. Good luck!
