ok, i'm 9 weeks post op and have been craving a hot dog! I'm only thinking of trying like a quarter of one.... I know we're not supposed to deny ourselves "everything" has anyone tried one yet? just curious...

Maybe four weeks. I was eating everything by that time. I mean, I wasn't eating a WHOLE hotdog, maybe a third by time I felt full, but cut up teeny tiny, and chewing, chewing, chewing, until it was literally mush in my mouth. Swallowing it, it had the texture of a puree. That's how I chew EVERYTHING, and so far so good.

I'm 7 weeks out and I had a hot dog for dinner last week. I just made sure that I peeled the skin on it. I had no troubles with it. And I can tell you this...it was SOOOOO good!!! Judy

Okay... so I had the chicken kielbasa-type sausage last night. I had three one inch pieces and I cut off the casing. It went down so good! The taste and texture were not quite as yummy as pork kielbasa, but it will do. It's very low fat, too. Hope this helps! *~Amber~*

I have tried hot dogs and they have went down fine, just remember to chew to pulp. Smoked sausage gives me the blues, they are on the no-no list. Nancy

I had surgery one day before you. Though I haven't tried a hot dog, I have had turkey jerky--if I can eat that, I'm SURE you can eat a hot dog! By the way, turkey jerky is great! I get the "soft" kind without pepper (it's a little chewy, not dried to leather). Still takes forever to chew, but it tastes great and has something like 13g of protein per ounce. You can pack a lot of protein in with just one strip of it, and it's a heck of a lot better than those protein shakes in my opinion. FYI, if anyone's interested, I get my turkey jerky from Prasek's Smokehouse in Hillje, TX. You can order online at http://www.praseks.com/index_ie2.htm No, I'm not associated with Prasek's--I just like their stuff. A pound goes a loooooooooong way for me, and it can be frozen in its vacuum-sealed package for later. ---- Leslie

AFTER MY 6 WEEK CHECK MY FAMILY WAS COOKING ON THE BARBEQUE AND I DECIDED TO TRY A GRILLED HOT DOG. I LOVED THEM BEFORE BUT IT WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY ONE OF A FEW THINGS THAT I THREW UP. CAN'T SAY EXACTLY WHY - I REALLY HAD THE CRAVING FOR THAT AND A SALAD. THE SALAD WAS FINE. I WAS ON FULL DIET AT 6 WEEKS. MY DATE WAS 8/9 AND I AM DOWN 74 POUNDS. GOOD LUCK WITH THE OSCAR MEYERS. LOL!!!

thank you all for your imput about hot dogs. I tried one bite the other day and it just didn't do anything for me. These were polish-style hot dogs that I loved pre-op. I guess it's really true that your tastes can certainly change post-op. I appreciate all your advice and suggestions! Sue
