Beginning last Monday, 9/13, I started getting diarrhea. It got worse as each day passed. I finally ended up in the ER on Friday night. Seems there is a nasty stomach virus going around that lasts 10-14 days and I got it. Also I have a terrible rash at the top of my legs and under my belly. My jaw is still giving me fits. I did not do any of Stage 3 of my eating (blended foods). Now its time to start on regular food and I'm still having to watch what I eat and drink protein drinks to get in enough protein. I haven't been following the diet recommendations at all. My average day is around 600 calories, 65 g. protein and 30 g. carbs. I am 4 weeks post-op and have lost 28 lbs. How bad have I messed up not following the dieticians recommendations? How long will it take to "soothe" my upset stomach? Just now getting a little strength back. Any suggestions? Jeanette (8/25//04 -28lbs)

I don't know the answer to your questions, but take care of yourself. get over the flu. I would call the doctor and ask his help as to what you should do.

I had a terrible bout with the flu when I got out of hospital. I called the nutritionist and asked her if I should go back to stage I and she told me to just keep at the stage where I should be. My stomach is still giving me a few problems. Since the flu I cant seem to drink water without it hurting or anything cold. Hopefully that clears up soon. Food wise I was on the soft stage at the time I got the flu so I ate mostly soups. Hope you feel better soon. Patty

Jeanette - I'm surprised you're able to get as much protein in as you are getting. I go along the other gals. Take care of yourself. Eat as you can tolerate food and drink. Call the doctor's office for their take on things. I've had to call them on the opposite problem (constipation) and they've been nothing but patient with me. For the rash, my PCP gave me Nystatin skin cream which really helped, but make sure the area stays dry. One of the most creative solutions was to put a 'pad' between the leg and the apron of skin so they weren't touching each other Well, God bless you and I hope you have an otherwise uneventful recovery. Jeanette, I didn't have the flu, but can only suggest that you "baby" yourself totally. Girl, you're sick! However, as for the rash-that I did get. Nasty thing! My doctor described it as an external yeast infection. I applied a cream to the area and also was given an oral antibiotic. It's only one dose and does the trick in 7-10 days. What a relief!! I hope that you're feeling better soon, best wishes to you. By the way, my surgery date was Aug.30-25lbs lost. Continued good luck! Nancy A
