Beating myself up.

I'm 7 weeks post-op and I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I wasn't weighed on the actual day of surgery but since July 15th I have lost a total of 39 LBS. The problem is (if you can call it that) I feel like I did before surgery. I have never dumped, I can eat most anything that I have tried so far. I try to stick to mostly protein but the only time I feel full is if I have meat or something substantial. The cottage cheese, refried beans and things like that just don't do it. I am so afraid that I am eating too much and I'm going to screw everything up. This week especially I feel "fat". I don't have to see the dr until after Thanksgiving but I do have an appointment with the nutritionist on Monday 10/4. Is it normal to feel this way?

Pam- Don't beat yourself up! It sounds like you are doing good on your weight loss. I am 6 weeks post-op and I've lost 34 pounds. Nothing has made me sick so far either. Just make sure you follow your doctor's orders and you'll be fine. Take care and don't stress!! Natalie 281/247/125

Hi Pam, Please don't beat yourself up -- you're doing great! At 7 weeks out, it's totally appropriate to be sick of the cottage cheese, etc. and go for more substantial protein. That's normal -- it's a sign of healing! You don't mention how many grams of protein you're getting in or what the quantity of food is that you're eating at one time or whether you're exercising or how much water your getting in. All of these factor into your weight loss and your emotions. You may want to track your foods on fitday.com. This is a great way to see how you're doing each day with getting in your protein and calories. It will give you a pie-chart/percentages of what you're taking in for protein, fats and carbs each day. It also allows you to track your weight loss progress. Are you measuring your foods? If you're afraid you're eating too much, measuring your foods for now will be a good reality check for you. Measuring and tracking my foods, at least half the days each week, has really helped reassure me that I'm on the right track. If you're feeling "fat", my first thought was how are you doing on your fluids and salt consumption? Are you getting in 64 or more ounces of fluids each day? I feel bloated when I'm not getting enough water or my salt intake is too high or I'm not exercising. How are you doing with walking each day? Hope some of these ideas might help! Good luck to you and hang in there!

It sounds to me like you are doing fine. 39 pounds isnt too bad for 7 weeks. I've never actually dumped either but I avoid sugar like its poison so maybe thats why. Some days I feel like I could eat more than I should but I think now what we consider "more than what we should" is still alot less than what we used to be able to eat. Now our choices are healthier and usually protien based. As far as the full feeling or hunger feeling I still don't have that feeling back yet. Good luck Patty
