Hey everyone - I just had my surgery a month ago and I still am not feeling good. When I wake up in the morning I am extremley nauseus. If I even think about food, I throw up. I'm also feel really out of breath when I first wake up and that doesn't help the nauseusness at all. Has anyone else been through this? What did you do?

Meghan, I had my surgery on 8/24/04 and I was finding the same thing. I started to have some protein before I go to bed at night - not a lot, just enough to keep my stomach busy. I find that if I don't eat at night, by the morning I can't even ge****er down without feeling sick. Try a teaspoon of peanut butter - it goes down easy and stays in the stomach for a while. Hope that helps! Jen

My surgeon told me that warm fluid, i.e warm tea relaxes the pouch and can ease nausea. I don't touch a thing in the morning until I have my warm Peppermint tea. The other thing that helped me was sucking on a piece of fresh ginger. Take care- Marcie

Meghan, are you getting in all your water? The first sign of deydration for me is nausea. I drink as much as I can, especially right before I go to bed and it really helps.

Meghan: All the paperwork from my surgeons office says: in the first few weeks after surgery you will get "winded"easily while walking or doing other physical activity, and this is OK. On the other hand if you experience shortness of breath "while sitting still or doing minor physical activity you need to go to the nearest Emergency Department and tell them that you might be having a Pulmonary Embolus". As I'm sure you are aware, this is where a blood clot may have formed in the large veins of the leg around the time of surgery then breaks off and floats to the vessels of the lung. It is potentially serious or even fatal. I do not mean to upset you or make you panic but if you are feeling out of breath and are not really moving around at the time, you need to be evaluated. So think about what you are doing when you are out of breath and then decide if you need to be seen. Hope this helps. Take care Girl! Teresa T
