I AM A MEss
i had surgery 8/23
I am eating 1 time a day
I will eat either mashed potatoes, cream soup or mashed beans
I was eating pastina but now it makes me sick
I am having a hard time with protien
now I just got Isopure 50 g,
it says mix with water
what else can Imix it with its vanilla
ive been threw so many protien drinks.
the last few days I am only getting 25g in
and I know I need more
I had surgery the same day. I have two meals a day. One is just peanut butter and the other one could be anything....Tonight we had pizza, I took one bite, bread and all. Then I ate half the cheese, ham and pinapple. I haven't pucked and only once did I feel what I think was the I'm full warning sign. I take at least 30 minutes to eat, usually longer and then what ever it is is either cold or dried out. Now my dog will need WLS.
I'm sorry your having such a hard time with food. As for the protein.....I spent a ton on protein drinks...YUCKY!!!!! I have found Amino2222 at GNC.
It doesnt have the vitimins that is in Procomplex, which is my doctor's recomended protein. So I just take 2 mult-vitimins. It does have 5g of sugar, the procomplex has only 2g. I'll accept the sugar, over not getting any protein. I just walk an extra lap. Sure hope things get easier for you.
So far I've been lucky, knock on wood.
Hi Brandi,
Besides the Isopure (mix it with skim or 1% milk), I'd suggest you'd look into getting some unflavored protein powder. I like Unjury -- it can be ordered online at www.unjury.com. This can be added to your mashed potatoes, soups, etc. and will really help in boosting your protein.
I really think you need to eat more often. Even if you're having trouble eating much, I think it's important to try to eat as much as you can. When I was having trouble eating, I scheduled myself to eat something with protein in it every 3 hours from wake-up to bed-time. I still stick by that schedule (as much as I sometime hate it), even though it's gotten easier to tolerate food in the last couple of weeks (I had my surgery on 8/13). If you don't think you can increase your eating to more than once a day, then I think that you should contact your surgeon or dietician for help. Good luck to you!
I didn't tolerate the Isopure either. I use Unjury choc mix with water can't tolerate milk just yet.It tastes like a fudge popsicle to me, I had to start out with only half for awhile and now I'm up to the full amount. I read were mashed potatoes sit hard on new pouchs, also WLS pts can only take in 30grams of protein at one time so I spread mine out all day.Have you tried a scrambled egg?Try adding some cheese to your beans will add some protein.I was told to day to eat more I was only eating 1 time a day I had surgery 8/9 and the sugery went good but I had problems with Bronchitis, fever and blood clots in my leg and both lungs so I'm behind on eating but the Unjury has helped me a lot I have lost 50lbs. I hope this helps some.
Best wishes Linda
HI, I WAS A MESS ALSO, I HATED PRTEIN DRINKS, IT LEFT A BITTER TASTE IN MY MOUTH. I JUST MADE 6 WEEKS, AND THINGS GET SO MUCH BETTER THEN. NOW I EAT LUNCH MEAT FOR PROTEIN .PEANUT BUTTER IS EASY TO EAT ALSO. I ALSO BLEND TUNA IN THE BLENDER AND CKICKEN IN THE BLENDER AND MAKE SALAD WITH IT .MY BLENDER IS MY BEST FRIEND
Brandi,
Try staying away from the white foods (i.e., potatoes, bread, pasta, rice, cream based soups, etc.).
Try eating a baked/boiled piece of chicken breast, or I eat Hormel Chili without the beans. If you like seafood, you could always eat that, as it contains lots of protein.
I had my surgery on 8/17/04, and am still eating all pureed foods, so I am anxious to get to week 6, so I can actually "bite" into something.
Good Luck!
Karen
