I CAN'T STAND PROTEIN DRINKS NO MORE
Tracy, I can't stand protein shakes either.
Before surgery I went and found one that I REALLY liked...ordered a huge 8 lb. container of it...and after surgery, I am not only lactose intolerant, I can't drink many cold beverages, and I can't stand the thick, slimy stuff sliding down my throat.
So then I tried Protein Bars. While those were better, they were VERY dry and after a bit of time I noticed I was eating less and less of the bar...I knew the time I would be eating them was drawing to a close.
Fortunately, I then found liquid protein. Do not be misled...it is not liquid like water. It is THICK, like cappacino syrup, no drinking this out of the bottle! When I saw it, I thought, "Oh Jeez, what am I going to do with this??!" Being that I LOVE Hot Tea (really calms my pouch, I drink about 6 glasses of decaf hot tea each evening, in addition to the Propel I drink all day long), I decided I would try it as a "tea". I simply pour the syrupy protein into a cup, add ho****er, micro it until it's good and hot, add a teaspoon of Splenda, and it tastes just like a Cherry Tea!! I'm so VERY glad that I found it, because it's also a better way of absorbing the protein...I can now EASILY get my protein requirements met, without having to worry if every little thing that I eat has enough protein in it! I can actually ENJOY food again without stressing constantly about it's protein content! Liquid Protein can be added to a lot of things...Fruit Punch, etc...been wondering how the Butter Pecan would taste in some SF Hot Chocolate, and maybe even on top of some SF Ice Cream!
The liquid protein I use is found at: http://www.pro-stat.info/ and comes in Cherry (which tastes like Marchino Cherries) and Butter Pecan. From this site though you have to buy at least 2 bottles at a time, so if you just want to try out some liquid Protein you may want to check somewhere else for something similar. I must say though, it has truly been a lifesaver for me!!
Good Luck!

Stacey,
I have a question about the way you use the liquid protein. I am also going to purchase this, but I have a question.
By putting the liquid protein in hot tea, does this do anything to the protein properties? Does it break it down too fast?
I know with other types of protein you have to add it to either cold or warm, but not hot, liquids.
Are there any instructions on the bottle about this? It would be a shame if you were thinking this was okay but really you weren't getting as much protein as you thought, you know?
My friend adds the liquid protein to her sugar-free koolaid. Have you tried mixing it in cold liquids? How does it taste to you?
I am curious to find out the answer to this.
Hugs,
Denise
P.S.
I HATE marachino cherries with a passion. Have you tried the butter pecan? If so, how is it? And does the cherry taste exactly like marachino cherries or kind of like cherry flavored medicine?
Denise:
To be honest, I don't know if it does anything to the Protein properties by me adding it to hot tea. The website for Pro Stat says you can add it to flavored tea...I suppose I assumed that meant hot tea, as well. So I don't know for sure whether or not I am getting the entire 15g in every serving, or if a little is breaking down (though since I don't heat my tea to boiling, and only to a tolerable drinking temperature, that's another question). However, to me the proof is in the pudding...I was on a 10 day no-loss period my 5th and 6th week, and as SOON as I started on the liquid protein, I started losing again...and have been losing a pound a day, nice and steady. Although I was eating 60g of protein in food before I got the liquid protein, I know all of that wasn't getting absorbed...I know a lot more of the liquid protein is getting absorbed, and thank goodness it's in a format that I like!
I am very sensitive to cold liquids post op, which is why I drink so much Hot Tea...the only cold liquid I can seem to get down smoothly is Propel. So no, I haven't mixed it with cold liquids, but of course it can be mixed with Kool-aid, fruit punch, and the like. My shipment that includes my Butter Pecan hasn't arrived yet, so I can't tell you how it tastes...but I'll be finding out soon! As far as this Cherry, I just associated it mentally with marchino cherries...which could be because I don't like the taste of cherry flavored anything, normally. It could be that it tastes like any other cherry flavored item. That one is hard for me to really decide since I only have my taste buds to test with, lol. :D
Good Luck!

As far as I know, you cannot get this SPECIFIC brand at GNC...I know they sell Liquid Protein, but Pro-Stat is actually a LOT thinner than some other Liquid Proteins. In fact, it's thin enough to do like a "shot" if you wanted to. I was thinking of the brand I was using while I had been waiting for my Pro-Stat to come in, which was thick and syrupy...Pro-Stat is hospital grade and can be used in feeding tubes, so it's the consistancy of Kool Aid or Punch...though much stronger, insomuch as it is concentrated.
So it all depends on what you want.

Go to www.vitalady.com and order some samples of different protein drinks. My favorite is the Banana Cream - you have to drink about 6 oz. and get over 30 grams of protein.

Hi Tracy!
I know what you mean! I have been using Unjury.....and it is not too bad. Go to www.Unjury.com and give them a call or check out their product.
My kids like the chocolate....it tastes like Quik! I drink my chocolate protein mix in my coffee each morning and it tastes great!
Good Luck!
