No nutrional value in salads for us right now. I am sure you culd probably eat them but why? You need the protein and this needs to be your primary goal for now....or at least this is what I was told. Denise

I am having a heck of a time with anything. I would not be the best candidate to ask. I am trying to get myself on the 6-8 small meals routine when things can go down. I do know that salad is just not what you want to do this early out. Denise

If you do want to eat a salad I would suggest putting some chicken or cheese in it. Just be careful to chew it very careful and use a low fat s/f dressing. I've been eating chicken breasts, lean cuisine dinners, fresh veggies, cheese sticks, luncheon meats, eggs, chilli and soups. Hope this helps. Patty

Well I can tell you that I made turkey chili a few days ago and it was delicious. (Not spicy enough for my son, but the tabasco sauce cured that!) I have a George Foreman grill which I use all the time to grill my skinless/boneless chicken fingers, or breasts whichever I use. For breakfast I usually eat oatmeal, sometimes with beneprotein in it. Or I eat an egg or an egg substitute with mozarella cheese on it. I drink a protein drink around noon. I ate a yogurt, low sugar, low fat for lunch today. Sometimes I eat a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter for lunch. Alot of times I'll have soup. Today I bought clam chowder from the store. It just sounded yummy to me. I'll probably have some of that for lunch tomorrow and fini**** off for dinner. I tried cottage cheese, but it doesn't agree with my digestive tract. My surgeon said to wait a few weeks and try it again. I hope this helps you with some suggestions for food. Barbara

Yes, I was at the grocery today and almost drooled at the lettuces! My doctor said no fresh fruit or vegetables, including salad, until at least 2 months post-op because they are very difficult to digest. It's difficult, but I also remember how difficult pureed stage was and know that this too will pass!

I was allowed to begin trying ANYTHING that I wanted (within reason of course, no big greasy burgers or anything) at 4 weeks. I now have a salad with chopped turkey breast EVERY day for lunch, and it is absolutely HEAVENLY after being on puree for a month. (I'm 6 weeks Post). I even have a normal serving of Ranch Light Dressing on it (2 TBSP), and it goes down just fine...in fact, it goes down BETTER than most of the things I eat, I think because it is so light, versus the heavy sensation of meats, etc. So if your Doc says it's ok, I am sure you'd be fine. Be sure to try only a bit at a time, first, because you know how we hate that "OW OW OW" Tight feeling of something not sitting well! Good Luck!

Lakiesha....you do NOT want to try salads. LOL My husband is 2 years out and STILL has a hard time with them. If he doesn't chew the lettuce down to a PULP...it revisits. It's DISGUSTING. You just DO NOT want to go there. What is it about the salad that you like? Lettuce really has no taste and no value at this point. What about getting some tomato and dipping it in dressing? Would that help with your need?
