Hi Shara: My support group says that when you're in a slump, make sure you're drinking all your water (64 oz) and getting in all your protein (60-80 grams). I'm really slowing down myself, but I can certainly understand your frustration hitting your first plateau so soon after surgery. I'd also recommend, calling the Dr. office and ask them for suggestions. I'm sure they have experience with early plateaus. Good Luck and God bless you. I hope you drop 11 pounds this week!! Barbara

I stopped losing for a couple of weeks when I was two weeks out and the scale even went back up 6 pounds. Thank God that plateau is over and I am losing again. Just keep doing what you are supposed to and once your body catches up with you the weight will start coming off again. Patty

Hey Shara, I was told this is common for new post ops. you can hit a 2-3 week plateau. I think we all are experiencing it and it is very frustrating. Just keep uup what you are doing and the rest will follow- at least I am hoping so myself! Denise

Shara sweetie, I am right there with you. I had surgery on the very same day, 8/2/04...I paused for an entire week in week 2, and again now at week 5...going into week 6 (been 8 days now and counting). Everyone asks, of course, if I am getting my Protein, Fluids, and exercise...and I have! In fact, I have been so bummed about the lack of loss that I have been making DOUBLY sure that I am getting enough Protein and Fluids, and I have been walking TWICE a day instead of just once. I am getting ready to switch to a liquid protein so that I can get in even MORE protein and see if that helps...but I am really at my wit's end. I am goal-oriented, and not being able to SEE results is the reason that I never made it long-term on any other diets or programs. It's SO hard! People say to stay off the scale, and I sure do try...but it's almost impossible, I am a huge Scale ***** I wish I had advice to give, but I think we are simply in a period of time where the body is adjusting and adding muscle, so we can't do anything about the loss. I had a goal to lose another 40# by November 1st (I have lost 40# so far), but if the loss doesn't pick back up, don't know if I will make it. Here's hoping that we both start losing again ASAP!! Stacy

Thank you for the responses......I know it is a slump and we all go through it. I went back to work yesterday..I waitress. Hoping this will help. Since day one my priority is the water and protein I do pretty good at getting in what I need. As far as food, as with most of you, I have a hard time there......cheese, cottage cheese, refried beans w/cheese, pretzels, spaghetti sauce w/ string cheese and thats about all i can do right now. I'm feeling better and the weight loss will come...........Good luck to us all!!!!!! Shara -30

Have you ever heard of ketosis strips? They are test strips you use to test your urine to see if you are still in a state of ketosis or not, wich is a fat-burning state. My surgeon recommends them for all his patients, and says to test every other day, so that no time is wasted during the the 18-24 month window of opportunity you have to maximize weight loss. You have to ask your pharmacist for these, they are kept behind the counter, but no prescription is required to buy them. I got mine at Walmart Pharmacy. If you are not in ketosis, then go back to basics, more walking, lots of water, lean proteins, etc. Follow your surgeon's food plan exactly, and you'll probably get back to losing.
