Hi Barb, You have to try to walk! I started walking on my first day home from the hospital. I went 1/4 mile every 2 hours until I reached 1 mile. Now I do 3/4 of a mile in the morning and 1/2 mile at noon. Sometimes if it's not to hot in the evening I will walk again for 3/4 mile. Walking is not only important for the weight loss but also for the healing process and to feel good. I know it's hard at first but try to push yourself and then pretty soon it will be easier and easier. Good luck to you! Sandy

I have to admit I haven't started any exercise myself. Moving at the end of the month so any free time is pretty much spent packing. I was losing well until this past week now I am on a plateau. Patty

I try to walk around the neighborhood daily unless I go shopping. I prefer to do my walking somewhere I can lean on a shopping cart (it makes it easier for my back). Trust me...my body lets me know when I have over done my exercise for the day (if not immediatly, then the following day)! You have to try to do some exercise! I have been told this not only helps you loose weight, but also helps reduce the amount of extra skin and helps build healthy habits for later. Beth

I am walking a mile a day. It really has helped me work through head hunger and just gives me an over all feeling of feeling better. Christie

I'm 1wk out and not doing any walking. I definitely would like to, but still feeling "yucky" at times and just feel as if I'm pushing it and stretching my abdomen when I walk too much. I'm going to lay off the walking, aside from walking around the house, or getting the mail, et****il I'm 2-3wks post op. THEN, I plan to walk a minimum of 1mile a day on the threadmill...GO ME! lol...

I have been riding my recumbent exercise bike for 30 minutes a night for the past 7 nights - since 6 days post op. I have not lost any weight since I started exercising. Jeanette (8/25/04 -16)

I had my surgery on the 16th. My docs PA doesnt want me doing any excercise for a couple more weeks. Im high risk for incisional hernias though also as ive had two major op's for them in the past. I had a hard time walking in the grocery store last week with a friend of mine....I do walk around the house alot; but was also told not to ride my recumbent bike yet. I think this is a decision you and your doc should make if you are unsure! good luck!!!
