I feel really good as far as the physical part goes, but I have little to no energy and can't get myself off of the couch. I try to push myself to do things around the house, go to the store, the gym, anywhere, and I'm just so frustrated cause all I want to do is lay down, I'm so tired. My doctor checked my blood levels, iron-potassium-etc. and all is well. He said I just need to give myself more time. Is anyone else experiencing this lack of energy and ambition? I don't even feel like reading or shopping for new clothes or anything. It really stinks! Other than that, my incision has healed great and I'm able to sleep on my sides and stomach. Any imput would be greatly appreciated! Patty M.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one that isn't feeling fantastic! I've lost 24lbs so far and feel good about that, just really really frustrated with the no energy part. Also getting a little tired of just protein shakes, pudding, pureed anything. I want to chew so bad. I know I need to let my pouch heal, but, it is a lot harder than I had expected letting go of the head hunger. I sound like a big whiner, but sometimes it helps to let it out. Hope you don't mind. It is pretty neat that we have the same losing date. Would like to keep in touch anytime! I see the doctor Friday and will see what he thinks. Keep in touch! Patty M.

I have very little energy but my doc said it was becasue I had internal bleeding and had to have quite a bit of blood (8 units of blood/6 of plasma) in the hospital. But it is so frustrating! I want to get 'back to normal' at least energy-wise! Lisa Huffstetler

Hang in there Lisa! This lack of energy is starting to really get to me when I read so many others only 1/2/3 weeks out and feeling so great and back to work and the gym. I'm tired of feeling like a patient. I hope you start to feel better soon!

I find that I am really not doing as much yet as I should be. By the aft I usually need a cat nap to refresh and sometimes in the evening I fall asleep for a bit. Then I cant sleep till half the night is over. I'm sure it won't be long and we will be back to our busy selves. Patty

Hi, I am also 4 weeks out. Some days I feel great. Walk treadmill and round and round inside the house. I had RNY and have lost 27 lbs. My problem, I can't drive. Every time I try, my right side just under the breat just kills me. Doc says normal. I am going for my post -op check up tomorrow, so will see what he has to say. He told me to let my body be my guide. So be it! Marla

Patty I truly hear what you are saying. I am 3 weeks post op and I am so tired all the time. I have been pushing myself to walk at least 2 miles every day. I need a afternoon nap everyday and then I am in bed by 9-10pm every day. The Dr. had my lab work done yesterday. I don't have the results yet. I what my energy back. Hugs-Charla

Okay, so I talked to my doc about this very subject, and this is what he told me... You know when you have the flu and you're REALLY tired??? It's because your body's doing anything and everything to try and heal itself. So after surgery, it's pretty much the same... our bodies are healing up every incision and change. PLUS on top of all of that, we have VERY FEW calories we're intaking... so our bodies are at even a further disadvantage of healing rapidly, thus making us TIRED even more!!!! My dr said it takes a good 6 weeks for us to get to the point of even feeling SOME amount of energy. He said a lot of people mistakingly think they're all better at about 3 weeks out b/c there's little/no pain anymore, so they return to work, et****il they realize how exhausted their bodies are. So my advice is to try and get your exercise in the morning when you wake up, it'll get your metabolism going for the day. Make sure you're up on protein and vitamins, that should help a little. And last but not least, get some rest! Allow yourself (don't get mad at yourself) to be lazy... this is one of those rare times we actually can convince ourselves we NEED to do it. Think of yourself as recovering from the flu, and pamper yourself in much the same way!!!! Hugs, Dawn

Thank you for that answer! I am so tired and I have been back to work for three days. God, I thought I might fall asleep at my desk this afternoon. I had surgery on 8/5, I feel good, look good and have nothing wrong except I'M TIRED!!!! I think I might take half a day off tomorrow.... A nap sure sounds good........ Laurie -40 lbs!
