Hi I am two weeks post op and feel "pretty good". I have one major problem I need help with. I can't seem to drink anything without feeling a lot of discomfort/pressure. I drink extremely slow and small small sips. It still feels like everything is backing up. Then I burp, burp, burp. I do not have a problem with eating however. Everything goes down fine. Still sometimes feels heavy, but fine. I have done everything by the book according to my surgeon and still feel this pain/discomfort. Has anyone else experienced this? How did you get past it? I am calling the doc tomorrow but would like some info. On the up side I have lost 26lbs. I also posted to the main board. Need all the help I can get. Thanks for your help Wendy

Sounds like maybe you are taking in air while drinking. Don't use a straw if you are. Also, try a glass or bottle. I drink out of a bottle it seems I take in less air. Hope this helps! Christie

Hi Wendy, I'm just a little further out than you at two and a half weeks. I have the exact same problem. My dietician said that some post-surgical patients just don't tolerate fluids well, even though they can tolerate food (does seem odd doesn't it?). She said some patients can do better with warm decaffinated tea and that it sometimes also helps to keep the fluids at room temp rather than drinking them cold. Neither helped me much. I told the doctor today about getting in much less than the desired volume of fluids and he didn't seem too concerned, just encouraged me to keep trying. Good luck to you!

I had my surgery 08/16 and also experienced that. I started sipping my liquids thru a straw and have not experienced it anymore. I do have the burping still but understand it is part of it. Congrats on the weight loss. I was down 16 last week when I went back to have my drain removed.

Thank you all for your replies and encouragement. Hopefully this will pass. I will try some of the things you all have suggested. Thanks and God Bless Wendy

Hi Wendy, Are you taking Gas X or chewable pepcid? This helps a lot with the built up gas. I do not have a problem with drinking but serious problems with eating. I keep Gas X and pepcid with me at all times. They seem to relieve the pressure issue you are refering to. Good Luck! Denise

I agree with everyone on here... smaller sips, try temperature changes on beverages, sounds like you're swallowing air with it... Also, keep in mind we're all a bit more gassy... Dawn
