Can you lie down?
First question,
Did you have Lap surgery or Open???
That will determine your pain / comfort level.
I had mine Lap on 08/04. The first few days at home, I would sleep for awhile in the bed and then I would get up in the middle of the night and move downstairs to the recliner. After about 3 nights, I could sleep in the bed all night on my back with a pillow under my knees.
It will be 4 weeks on Wed and now I am sleeping pretty much normal. I can't sleep completely on my stomach for long because i will feeel something kind of like a pulling feeling. I sleep most of the night on one side or the other. Although I do have to change positions frequently.
I really haven't had a truly restful sleep, except when I have taken pain med to knock me out.
My suggestion, try propped up with pillows behind and a pillow under your knees in bed.

OH for my recliner! I am staying with my daughter and the only reclinners she has, I can't get out of. Must use feet and legs to push leg rest down.
Only way I have been able to sleep is with one of those thingy's you set in bed and lay back on . Almost like setting up sleeping. I also found if I sleep with a binder on, I could sleep on my side for a bit. Sleeping is not an easy task. The "doctor" my daughter, will be taking me home this weekend. Oh happy days! My daughter gets on these boards, reads up on what ever and then tells me what I should do! She really has been a doll. With out her support, I don't know what I would have done. I even use my cell to call her at night, I am up stairs. Works good! I only used the cell couple of times, better than yelling.

Hi Patty,
I had a lap RNY on 8/13. I'm a side sleeper, too. I tried to lay down in my bed the first night I got home from the hospital and had a mini-crisis because I couldn't get up and had no one to help me. After that, I didn't even try my bed and for the next week and a half I rotated between a recliner, a chair/ottoman and sitting up sideways on the couch to sleep. I did not sleep well. About a week ago, I tried the bed again and using pillows to cushion my belly and back, and figuring out a way to grip the side of the bed, I was able to get in/out and turn over, although with quite a bit of pain at first. For the last couple of nights it's been much easier to turn and haven't really needed the pillows and I'm having only a slight twinge now and then -- it's been heaven! Keep trying every few days -- you'll know when you can do it!
