8/2 Well i'm finally back among the living!!
Everything had gone so smooth with the Insurance and all the test and I tought I would breeze through the surgery but boy was I wrong! The day after surgery I had to have another surgery because my stomach didn't wake up. They had to put a drain tube into my old stomach. Then I started having trouble with my blood pressure bottoming out and my pulse rate going up to 210 when I would get up. I had to stay in the hospital for 6 days. But the fun didn't stop there, on Aug 18th my blood pressure drop to 80/50 at home and my blood sugar dropped as well. And from there was very painful. And then on Saturday the 21st. I ended up in the ER with infection at the drain tube site and cellulitis. But Wednesday I got the tube out and I feel much better. I was able to walk 2 miles today. I have also lost 22 lbs and 30 inches. I get to start chewing my own food Monday. I can't wait because I am tired of puree.
I'm so happy to finally be on the other side and on the losers bench.
Good Luck to everyone that their surgery is coming up!!
Cindy
HI CINDY... I AM SO THRILLED FOR YOU, YOU HAVE BEEN TRUELY BLESSED . IT MAY NOT SEEM LIKE IT NOW BUT THINK OF HOW EVERYONE OF YOUR INCIDENCES COULD HAVE TURNED OUT! GOD HAD HIS HAND ON YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. I PRAY YOU WILL HAVE CONTINUED SUCSESS AND REACH YOUR GOALS. I HAD MY WLS 08/13/2004 AND YESTERDAY MY DOC SAID I COULD GO TO PUREED FOODS, I AM LOST AS TO WHAT ALL THAT ACTUALLY CONSISTS OF. LIQUIDS WERE EASY, JUST DRINK WHAT STAYS DOWN! NO I HAVE TO REALLY START THINKING! LOL STEPHANIE
Sorry to hear that you have had such a rough start. Great that you are home now and on the road to recovery. I get to start puree on Monday. I never thought I would be happy to hear that but it has to be better than this full fluid diet, feel like I could float away. Best wishes for your continued success.
Patty
What a rough start! But, it seems you were guided nicely by God's hands and are back with us now!
Congrat and keep us updated!
I get to have fish and real food Monday! I am sooooooo excited! But, as insane as it sounds, I am nervous! What will make me sick, what won't?!?!That 'tis the question!
Take care and glad you are home!

Hi Cindy, sorry to hear about your complications... but God did have his hand on you.....
I had surgery on 8/3/04... I started eating pureed food... there is this reciepe for shrimp dip that is pureed.... sautee some shrimp in olive oil, till they are orange, then use some fat free mayo, green onion, seasoning, and puree them.... really tastes good if you like shrimp, of course I do chicken in the food processor, and tuna is really good....
Remember to take it slow... dont try to many things at once let your body talk to you and let you know what it likes and doesnt like....
I thought the shrimp would be hard to digest but once it was blended it was really good...
Good luck....
Hi, I am so glad that you are on the mend after all of your complications. Your problems were so much more severe than mine that I surely shouldn't be complaining. Please take care.
I have had a rough start as well. I have a basketball size hernia that for 13 years has hung to just above my right knee. Over the years I supposed that I had become accustomed to it's hanging weight. It has grown since surgery to about 3 inches below my knee and I am just starting to walk almost upright without too much pain. It seems that all the IV fluids made the hernia grow and then the pain meds made me constipated and retain more fluids. I have about 12 new inch wide stretch marks that are trying to heal. I knew this would be a problem, but, never this bad. I can only walk about three minutes at a time. I have not gotten back down to my day of surgery weight yet. I gained 15 pounds in the 4 days in the hospital. It's all disappointing, but I know that soon I'll be only thinking of these bad times and not living them.
