Hi Michelle, I had my RNY surgery on 08/16/04. I'm still on clear liguids, Will be going to the Dr tomorrow and hopefully have the staples removed along with the drain. I think I go to full liquids after 2-3 weeks on clear. Then I go to the soft food after 3 weeks of full liquids. I will find out more tomorrow. It must feel great to have the staples out! Sandy

Hi there! I get my staples out tomorrow and petrified of the drain coming out. Wimping here now after all of this! I am on a full liquid diet, if it is runny, I can eat it. So, I have things like soup, watered down grits, pureed pintos and cheese, potatoes soupy, pudding with protein powder in there, stuff like that. I am going to not be one of those who can eat "whatever". I dump on my chewable vitamins and calcium...not what I want to be hearing here! Liquid ones..even worse. Oh well, tomorrow staples and drains and hopefully off to feeling a bit better. Tabitha

I didn't have staples, but I had a drain and I was soooooo scared to have it removed... my Dr teased me and said he had to put his foot up on my shoulder to yank it out--- I almost passed out. But don't worry about the drain- there's no pain involved, it just feels like a butterfly flapping it's wings as it gets pulled out... kinda weird but doesn't hurt!

hi tabitha- tomorrow is 2 weeks post op for me- i had my open r-n-y on the 13th. my doc said no carbs for me so i can't have all that good potato stuff you are allowed. i am eating what he calls a pureed diet. stuff like yogurt, cottage cheese, baby food fruit, meat (although i haven't had the guts to try the smelly stuff yet), and veg from the baby food jars. i am eating egg drop soup from the chinese restaurant and that has been great. doc says my tummy is delicate- like a baby's so go easy on spicy. it's pretty boring right now but i don't have much of an appetite yet. next week, when i go for my 3 week check and have my drain out, i do believe he will expand my diet. i am really looking forward to it. by the way i am down 12.5 pounds as of this morning. good luck to you. ellin

I had my surgery (open rny) on Aug. 13th. I've also lost 14 pounds. I'm already sick of the foods that I can eat and have to force myself to eat. I'll make something to eat and will only eat about 4-5 bites and I'm done. I've been eating & drinking: instant cream of wheat with a little applesauce for flavor cottage cheese instant mashed potatoes with (garlic herb fake butter spray) sugar free jell-o yogourt (no seeds) creamed soups protein drinks crystal lite soft boiled eggs sugar free fudgsicles (mmmmm!) I can also eat meat that's pureed...but that sounds so gross so I haven't bothered. Lisa
