I WAS JUST WONDERING, BECAUSE I HEAR OF PEOPLE ON SPECIAL DIETS PRE-OP. AND THE ONLY THING MY DR SAID ,IS NO EATING AFTER MIDNIGHT. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME ANY SUGGESTIONS. I'VE BEEN DRINKING PROTEIN DRINKS, TAKING MULTI VITAMIN,DRINKING LOTS OF WATER,CHEWING FOOD,AND SMALLER BITES. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO AVOID SUGARS. ANYTHING ELSE WOULD BE GREAT.

My surgery is Monday and I was told to do nothing but my friend who had it yesterday was told to do a bowel prep and to eat a liquid diet the day before surgery. I am pigging out like crazy. Monday is the big day and I am eating like crazy.

Every Dr seems to have a different pre-op plan. Mine had me on liquids the day before and nothing 12 hours before surgery. If he told you just not to have anything from midnight on then that should be good enough. Patty

I'm on a liquid diet for five days. To reduce the size of my liver. Two days prior surgery, a clear liquid diet to clean out the system. Before you do something that might not be necessary according to your doctors instructions... call his office and ask.... you want to be at your best for surgery. Best to you, Rhonda 8/30/04

I had a light meal at Don Pablos the night before my surgery. My doctor said to cut off at 12 midnight, and I cut off around 9pm. I had surgery at 7am the next morning and did just fine. One thing I'd suggest is to also have foods onhand after surgery that you can puree (like potatoes, veg. refried beans, soups). I bought a ton of protein powder prior to surgery, and post surgery found I didn't really like the taste of it (quickly tired of the taste of fruit) and couldn't drink that much. I was glad I could switch between both. Also, Unjury unflavored protein can be added to anything you puree and it's not even noticeable. Good luck!
