I am 3 weeks post-op. What can we do in addition to walking? My doc's orders said no swimming. No time frame and I wont see him until 9/1. Give me ideas. TX Marla

Hi Marla! I'm also 8/3 post-op, and I have the same problem. Getting boring, isn't it? So I'm just trying to walk a little farther each day.

Oh so boring! I am at my daughter's. She does not think I need to go home at this point. I have not drove. So fearfull of hurting something. Never want to see inside of a hospital again. Ofcourse this may change later, but for now, slooooow and easy. Marla

I haven't done much in the exercise dept yet except for chasing this darn dog and two cats when they scrabble. Just cleaning the house seems like a good workout right now. How about making up your own little morning routine of stretches and bends that you can handle without overdoing it. Patty

That is a good ide. I did do 6 minutes 2x on treadmill this afternoon. Took about an hours rest between sets. Not so bad. Then had my daughter drive me to salon for hair cut. Feel so much better! I have some 3# weights, will start a short work out with them. One day at a time. Marla

Hi Marla - 3 weeks, almost, for me too. Yep, doctor said no swimming (not even splashing around, until about 7-10 more days). Full blown swimming to work out will most likely be about 6 weeks after surgery. walking, walking, walking. I have been driving since exactly one week post-op. I went back to work exactly 2 weeks post-op. I was worried about it, because I would get that exhausted feeling from running a few errands the week I started driving. (Doc said I could drive as soon as I felt up to it.) Well, I must say that living life like everything is pretty normal, actually helps it be so. I am not allowed to lift more than 20 lbs. But I do have permission to start an arm and chest weight-training with some 7lb. dumbbells here at home. Honestly, I didn't do any real exercise until yesterday. I walked 20min on a track. (I did do short distances during the week after surgery, to loosen up a bit.) I finally feel like I have the energy to really exercise. I won't be allowed to do any more than I stated. I live in the mountains, so if I need change, I can go outside. We have some awesome trails and all kinds of inclines/declines on and off-road. I like the fresh air and changing scenery. I was going to do it over a week ago, but chickened out going alone so soon after surgery - didn't want to have a complication out on the trail...... Good Luck! Nona

Well guess I will wait on the water walking until I see the dr. I was told not to lift over 20# also. Have used the 3# weights a bit. I sure as heck do not want to hurt anything. I do not think I could have gone to work at 3 weeks. I am retired, so It makes no difference to me. I plan to try a short drive tomorrow. My daughter watches me like a hawk. She wants me to take it slow and easy. I am going stir crazy. We have been out to dinner a couple times. They that is, not me. Three bits and I am full. We plan to spend Thanksgiving in mountain this year, really looking forward to it. My daughter has bout a couple lots and are going to build a place to get away and a place to rent. Told them I would move up and look afer places. Would be nice. Thanks for the advice. Marla
