Well I'm back. I had surgery Monday the 16th at 7 am. My wife had hers at 10 am the same day. Her ended up being converted to an open RNY in the middle, so she has 6 lap wounds and a large open wound, but is healing fairly well. I would like to say I was one of the tough guys who didn't use his PCA pain pump but "once or twice" and hardly needed pain meds, but, sorry, I would be lying. My PCA and I got to be good, good friends! I was wlking like a pro, but my only challenge was keeping anything down. i sipped water, waited 10 minutes... . I sipped more water, waited 10 minutes... . This was not dribbling, either, this was projectile style...nurses running for cover type stuff. Finnally, after day 4, when my wife was going home, and I still could not hold water down, I got mad, took some oral pain med (I missed my PCA, but he had to go away after day 2) and slept for 6 hours. I woke up, felt a little better, and nothing came back for a repeat vist mof my mouth. Sipped a little chicken broth an hour later, it decided to stay around in the stomach, too! This morning, water, tea, broth and applesauce all spent some one on one bonding time with my new stomach, and stayed there!!! Dr said, get out of my hospital, I need a bed for sick people! And here I am!!!!

Glad to hear that you and your wife are both home and doing well. I missed my PCA pump too when I got home. Everyday gets amazingly easier. Best wishes Patty

Hey John, Welcome home to both of you- I found that this process is as individual as the next person. I just had mine the 12th and due to complications came home on the 18th.... Try to take it slow and easy.. I am prayng for you both. Denise
