Scared
Is there anyone out there that has had this surgery that is my size? I am 450 pounds and am having the surgery on Monday. I have come across only 2 people that are my size that have had this surgery! I am concerned and want to talk to someone who has had it before. Also, I used to smoke, quit a couple months ago, and have had a couple in the last couple of weeks just from nerves. Anyone out there in my situation? Does the size of the patient matter? I mean, is there more risk if you are 450 vs 350? Or doesn't it matter? All my tests have come back normal, I have nothing wrong health wise. My pulmonary doctor said my lungs are as healthy as anyone. Do I have anything else to be worried about vs anyone else?
Michelle,
First of all, let me say you are absolutely normal for being scared. I was so scared, they wheeled me in the OR crying but you know what, I woke up. I had the open RNY on Aug 3 and I'm doing great!!! I weighed in at 421 that morning before having surgery. I had lost about 15lbs before surgery just by nerves. You will be fine!!!
I worried so much before the surgery I almost made myself sick. I so do not regret it at all!!! Would do it over again. I will tell you the first 3 days are the hardest if you are having open. Just push that lil button and everything will be a ok!! Although I hardly used mine. The nurses were like.....Are you ok?? I was like...I feel GREAT!!
Anyways, my thoughts and prayers are with you. God has a plan for us Michelle and he will walk along side of you with this procedure as long as you will allow him too. I know he was there holding my hand and making everything feel better.
Let me know if you need anything or have any questions.
Good Luck and God Bless you on your WLS journey!!

I wouldnt worry too much. As long as the pulmonary Dr said your lungs are healthy you should be ok. I had mine on the 9th and weighed in at 328 pounds, I did just as well, if not better than my sister who was 256. I was also concerned about having it done at my weight and I emailed someone who was more than me and who had the same surgeon and he really put my mind at ease. I am also what he considered to be a bit on the older side for this op. im 45.5 years old. And shame on me I tried quitting but I smoked up until the day before surgery and I hate to admit that I even had a few the day before surgery. If you need to talk please feel free to email me.
