I'm scheduled for Aug. 31 and scared...
This is my first post here on this site... I'm scheduled for a lap RNY on August 31 and am absolutely petrified. I have my pre-op appointment on the 25th but the only "testing" my surgeon has asked for to date is the psychological testing. What if there is something seriously wrong with me that I don't know about and I die from all of this? I am having to pay for the entire thing out of pocket, so I'm afraid to ASK for more testing (and more costs), but I'm absolutely terrified that I am going to die and leave my two young children. I know there's nothing anyone can do... I guess I just wanted to get that off my chest.
KIM:
THAT DOES SOUND ODD THAT A SURGEON ONLY ASKED FOR A PSYCH EVAL. MAYBE THEY JUST DIDN'T TELL YOU ABOUT ALL THE OTHER DOCTORS. I HAD TO MAKE LOTS OF APPTS AND MAKE LOTS OF PHONE CALLS TO GET EVERYTHING DONE. THAT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. MAYBE ALL OF THE PRE-OP WILL COVER CARDIAC/PULMONARY/NUTRITION ALL IN ONE DAY!!! I WOULD BE NERVOUS TOO GIRL!!! CAN YOU CHANGE SURGEONS WITH YOUR CURRENT INSURANCE? MIGHT BE AN OPTION TOO.....

Good luck Kim. I am scheduled for next Monday. Let me tell you about my testing. The surgeon's office scheduled the lab (blood, urine), ultra sound, EKG and chest X-ray for me to get it done all on the same day. It took me all of 3 hours to get it all done at one facility. My psychological testing was done about 3 weeks ago. It was very important for me to get the blood results because of current thyroid problems so if you have any health concerns I suggest you talk to your doctor and ask about lab work. Maybe he's just not communicating well with you.
I too have a great fear of dying and leaving my 18-month old. I have however left it all in God's hands. I have been praying and praying asking God to do what's best for us and I believe and have faith that all will go well. Just trust in HIM and you'll feel better.
Good luck and God Bless

Hi Kim:
Take a deep breath and try to relax. The only pre-op tests I had were blood test, ekg and chest xray. The only reason I had the chest xray is because I am a smoker, normally he wouldnt do that. I would suggest that you check out your Drs history if you feel uncomfortable. I went to the Ontario college of physicians website to find out if my dr had any past claims filed against him and I also went on here and found one of his previous patients and talked to them via email. You need to trust your Dr and feel comfortable and keep only happy thoughts about how great it will be when you have the energy to really enjoy your time with the children.
Good luck
Patty
