Just Ordered My Supplements!
Hi fellow August Losers!
I just thought I'd share that I just ordered my supplements from www.bariatricadvantage.com - which was awesome! I don't have a credit card, so I dreaded asking my mom to order for me, but with these folks, I didn't have to worry!
They do electronic check orders with a checking or SAVINGS account! So all I had to do was call the bank for my routing number. Per my surgeon's orders, I ordered:
30 day supply of chewable (orange flavored) multi-vitamins
30 day supply of chewable (berry flavored) iron supplement
30 days supply (2 bottles) of chewable (CHOCOLATE!) calcium citrate
The grand total after shipping (which takes 3-5 business days) was $47.75! I was a little put out about it at first, but then my common sense clicked on...
I will save more that $47.75 a month by not drinking Pepsi anymore, so the money I used to spend on that, will more than cover the expense of my supplements and vitamins!
4 days to go!
i am preop too (8/10) and also have been shopping for chewable supplements. all that i have tried are disgusting! have u tasted them yet? if so please let me know how they taste! ive tried 3 diff vitamins, even childrens (how do they expect kids to eat that stuff?) and am disappointed. my doc said i could take tums which taste ok, but the more i read, the more i see people saying "citrate". guess thats better?
Thanks Patricia! I won't start mine until I'm 2 weeks post-op, but I'd rather have everything handy (and while the $$ was in the bank!) so I can concentrate on healing.
Susan, I didn't taste them, but I did smell them. The way I see it is, we HAVE to take them. There's no getting around it (reminds me of cough syrup, you have to take it to get rid of the cough). I'm sure there are going to be some ick to them with all of the vitamins and minerals that are in them (the children's stuff tastes so icky because of the iron). I got a good whiff of them all and they all smelled wonderfully!.
My surgeon strongly suggests vitamins/supplements made especially for bariatric patients as they have the right amounts of everything we need in them. They also gave us a paper that compared BA's vitamins to Centrum and Flintstones. BA uses citrate while the other two use inorganic oxides. I haven't found this info on their site yet, but I'm looking (so I can post the link). If I can't find it, I'll type it out tonight.
