Had Pre-Op Visit with the Surgeon Today......
There was like 7 of us there. I was the 6th to sign in so I had to wait forever to actually see the surgeon. We get our list of do's and don'ts, etc. I have to take all sorts of meds and stuff! GEEZ!
chewable multi-vitamin
chewable iron
chewable calcium citrate
Biotin (helps with the hair falling out)
Lortab Elixir (for pain)
Protonix (decreases stomach acid)
Biaxin (antibiotic - take night before surgery)
Then I got upset! I was told I could make payment arrangements on the $150 for the support group. So, I walked in prepared to hand them $25. I forgot parking $, so make that $20. Turns out, secondary insurance won't pay a thing, so I needed $10 for my co-pay. Then I was told that only patients who have Medicare as primary insurance can make payment arrangements for the support group. So, they have to have the $130 for that and the $10 for the co-pay before August 3rd or they will postpone my surgery! How freakin' great is this?!
Fact of the matter is, the surgeon's nurse is the one who told me that I could make the arrangements, but it's not her call. It's the billing department and they have a rule that only Medicare patients can make arrangements. So, a big ol' SCREW YOU to me! So I'll be postponing my rent to pay for this stuff.
He's not going to mess with the hernia unless it gives me trouble. This way, after I lose the weight I can have the hernia surgery and at the same time get my tummy tuck done and insurance will cover it!
I also mentioned the smoking and since I don't have any serious respiratory issues, I can smoke up until Midnight before surgery. Whoohoo! At least no one (in the house) will suffer with my mood swings now. *LOL*
Starting on Saturday, I have to go low-carb. The surgeon's assistant said when you eat carbs, it can cause the liver to get a little bigger. If my liver is in the way, they'll have to give me the open RNY. So today I'll eat my Submarine House sub and fried mushrooms and then I'll go get my manicotti from The Spaghetti Warehouse tomorrow. Sounds like a plan!
My BP was a little high (136/98), but they chalked it up to nerves.
I also told them that as of 12 hours post-op, no nurse better be pushing that PCA pump. I don't want to stay doped up. Twelve hours of rest is enough for one day. If the pain wakes me and I hurt bad enough, I'll hit the button. They will have us up every 2 hours and I don't want to be walking while I'm groggy since I have a bad hip.
