I'm also bringing my own pillows. I never sleep good or can get comfortable without them in hotels. So, I figure why not at the hospital also. Oh yeah, don't forget toothbrush and toothpaste. Besides the obvious, I've heard it helps with the dry mouth. Best wishes next week. Christie

Hairbrush and scruntchie something for my lips pads (I've heard the story too... ick!) picture of my family maybe a deck of cards and/or word search book I don't mind walking barefoot, but if I need slippers, I know the hospital will give them to me. They will also give me a basin with all the little toiletries, and whether I open it or not, it'll be charged to my bill, so I'll just use their toothbrush and toothpaste. Then I can just leave it all behind. My hospital is local, so I imagine I'll be on the phone most of the time anyway. I'm trying to take the least amount possible since most only seem to stay about 2 days. No sense in packing and dragging all of that stuff down there just to bring it all back and have to put it away.

Well I am trying to pack as light as possible. Just because I don't want to leave anything. I won't be carrying a purse. Hubby has an insurance card, he will carry my Drivers License, and the CC to pay the $300 copay. I wear contacts normally, So I made sure I have a new pair of glasses, and I will give them to my hubby with their case before they take me in. Since my fingers swell, I won't be able to wear my wedding band. I am picky as far as personal hygeine items, so I will be packing my travel kit with my own soap, shampoo, deo, etc. If I forget something I know the hospital will have it. I have been instructed not to wear deo, powder, perfume, makeup, hairspray, body spray, or jewerly for surgery. But they said as soon as I come out of recovery, I can put on deo. I know I will be sweating!!! I am putting my small fan from my desk in the car. If I don't need it, hubby wont have to drag it up. I know the hospital gives you those ugly slipper socks, but I'm bringing my own, they are cuter anyways! According to my surgical practice, you are up and walking as much of the time as you can to prevent blood clots. So I don't really see myself sitting down and watchin the tube or reading a book. If I carry any reading materials, it will be my dietary guides. I might bring a novel too just in case. But I plan to walk as much as they will let me so I dont get a blood clot. I am back on Depo, so hopefully, I won't have to deal with that mystery period some patients get. I'm trying to pack as light as I can, just the basics. Afterall, its not a relaxing vacation on the beach! Leland Lap RNY 08/04/04
