My surgery is August 11th and I had gained about 5 lbs. Do you think they would make a big deal? I wiegh about 249. I feel that soon I will not eat some kinds of foods. I am not pigging out either. I am having 1 can of soda once in awhile..Just curious...

I was told by my doctor to maintain my weight. He never said if the surgery would be cancelled if I gained, but I decided to keep my eating habits healthy so that surgery would be less a risk and I would not have that much more to loose. I had bloomed up an extra 12 pounds between my nutritionist appointment and when I started the 1200 calorie diet she told my to start two weeks after my appt. with her. ( she let me wait until after Christmas) It was VERY hard to loose all my 10% AND the 12 pounds I had gained. I did it and surgery is soon now. I have read here that some have had their surgeries postponed, but I think they may have gained more than 5 pounds. Anyway, I hope you have a smooth sail on the 11th. Mary-Rose

I wouldn't worry much about 5 pounds. Im actually bouncing up and down a couple here and there myself. Patty

I don't think you should have anything to worry about. Most surgeons would be happy if an extra 5lbs was all they had to deal with. Now, if you jumped up 50lbs, I think your surgeon would be concerned. I personally thought I was going to have gained from June 3 when I went in for my initial consult. But since I have felt so good these past few weeks, no back pain, I have been drinking so much water and walking alot more, I actually was able to drop 8.3lbs! I would love to make it an even 10lbs before surgery, but I doubt very seriously that I will though. Good Luck!!! Leland Lap RNY 08/04/04

Hiyah Kathy My doctor told me to lose 10 lbs before surgery let me tell you it hasn't been easy. He wanted to make sure that I have made a commitment to this journey so I may as well start now. Just curious....Is it a regular soda your drinking or diet. If you switch to diet you might just lose those 5 lbs. Easier said than done as I to struggle with givin up the soda but I did make the switch to diet. July 27th I will have to go cold turkey. My surgeon says no carbonation 4 weeks prior to surgeryand definately none after surgery. Hope you have complications free surgery and a speedy recovery. WHOHOOO FOR AUGUST LOSER Can't wait to be a loser Jackie
