Newbie and Nervous
I am new to this site and decided to subscribe today after receiving my surgery date of 8/3. I am most nervous about PAIN and not so much about change. I am feeling anxious and its creating a lil anxiety knowing its just around the corner. My surgeon is Scott Currie in Harrisburg PA if there is anyone else here in that area it would be nice to hear from you
I'm from Oklahoma. Welcome to the August 20004 Losers Team. My date is August 16 and from what I understand from my doctor is that they will actually have a pain medication going right to my incision. (I'm having an open RNY). Also the first day you should have one of those drips where you can push the button and control you own pain medication. (It's probably morphine.) I'm sure that you will get some sort of pain medication when you get home. Be sure to bring a pillow with you for the ride home. It helps with the bumps in the road. And be sure to be chapstick, you'll be very thirsty and the chapstick will help moisten your lips. I'm glad you joined the site. You can find alot of useful information just by reading the boards. If you have specific questions you can either post them on the main boards or come on into the chatrooms. The chatrooms move very fasst and questions are asked in CAPS. There is a wealth of info in there because there are ppl like us all the way to ppl who have been at goal for years.
I hope this helped. Information can certainly help anxiety a little.
God bless you and a speedy recovery.

Thank you for the sound advice and welcoming me to the group. I have been looking around and it seems to be loaded with useful information. I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery with your 8/16 surgery. It will be neat to come back here afterwards to see what we all thought of surgery post op.

I'm not from your area, but I wanted to wish you Congratulations! and Good Luck! I'm sure you'll be fine with the pain. I know how you feel about being anxious. I'm still not sure it's real, and I prolly won't pani****il the day before! And then I will most likely have a moment or 10 of freaking out!
Heather
Thanks Heather for the best wishes. I am sure I will be freaking out as well. I recall my EGD exam, when I was pushed into the room and looked around I thought OMG! why am I doing this? This is elective?? well before I had the chance to pump out another worried thought I was waking up to the nurse calling my name. All went well and I never felt a thing, very smooth. I am keeping that exp. in mind for my freak out period the day of surgery.
Congrats on your surgery date as well and I hope to see everyone back here after surgery to hear about all our successful surgeries.

Hello Shay,
Thank you for the words of support and yes prayers will help tremendously. I need to play some catch up with them but once I do it will give me the peace of mind I am searching as the day draws closer. You sound very confident and peaceful with your surgery in August. I wish you all of god comfort in your August surgery.

Hi Nicole...and welcome to the Boards. My surgery is also 8/3 and I am so anxious that I think of almost nothing else. I was actually scheduled for surgery May 13th, but chickened out at the last minute. I am getting lots of support this time around and I also have an "Angel" that will be there for me if I need to talk the night before. We will do fine. My surgeon reassured me that our feelings are normal and that put me at ease. God is watching over us!
Welcome to the group!!!! Congrats on your date I understand the nervousness Just when I get it off my mind someone brings it up and then the butterflies start!!! I really just want to get on with it too!! I'm not sleeping good I'm not scared just excited !!! My date is August 9th!!
Best of all things Linda
