My surgery is near and I need help
My doctor says I must loose weight in order to have my surgery. Can anyone tell me what are the best exercises to loose weight. I need to loose 15 to 20 pounds by surgery. I am not there yet. I am running out of time and I need help. I already postponed my surgery once for personal reasons. I know there are no quick fix in weight lose. I need the surgery for me and my family. Thank you all for your time.
Luis,
My doctor didnt tell me to lose weight before surgery but, he did put me on a low carb diet well, kinda low card I can have carbs just not anything white so to say no sugar white potatoes white bread nothing overprocessed. and I have been doing it for three weeks and lost 12 pounds. So maybe it would help you get some of that weight off. Well good luck! kristn
Luis,
Increase your water intake, and go on the South Beach or Atkins diet. I am on the south Beach. Even though weight loss is not required from my surgeon, I am taking a step to help myself.
If you have a treadmill, get on that! Or if not, start walking. It will help you l;oose that 20 lbs in your timeframe. Especially the no carbs, and water increase combination!
Good Luck!
Denise
Hi Luis,
My doc also asked me to try to lose some weight. He said as much as possible but also said that even 10 pounds would help. Apparently obese people have enlarged organs, especially the liver, he said that an enlarged liver likes to lay on the stomach making the surgery more difficult so he said by losing weight that helps to shrink the liver. He gave me a diet to go on that is low carb & moderate fat. no more than 60 carbs per day & stresses fish & poultry over red meats. Said to stay away from bread, potatoes & sugar. Any exercise you do will help you get a metabolism kick-start so just get on a machine or hit the road & walk. Hope this helps.

Thank you greg for reminding me the reason I have to loose some weight in order to have the surgury. Can you tell me what would probably happen if I only lost 5 pounds or less. I know I can do it but it sure is giving me a hard time. Surgery was the reason for not being able to loose weight. All those things you said to stay away is what has been in my diet all these years. Ha Ha Ha. thank you for your words of encouragement and I will prevail. God bless you.
I honestly don't know what would happen if you didn't lose or just lost 5 or so pounds. Like I said my doc just said it would make things easier if I did but he never said he wouldn't do the surgery if I didn't. I know what you mean about all those things I mentioned, they have been the base of MY food pyramid since I can remember, why do you think I need this surgery to lose the weight LOL. Good luck to you & I know if you set your mind to it you can do it....remember the little engine that could? I think I can...I think I can... Let that be your chant.

Hiyah Luis
My doctor told me to lose 10 pounds before my surgery also. Sounds like nothing but hey when your darn near 300 pounds it sounds impossible. But hang in there and it will happen.
I was the ultimate fast food "QUEEN " . And if I can do it so can you.
There were several steps that I took to loose the weight and they involve cutting out fast food, doing a protein drink, and the Atkins.
I come to the August board once a week not sure if you still need info. If you want detailed instructions on what I did. Email me.
Good luck
Jackie
I am trying all I can to loose those 10 to 20 pounds for my surgery. I say to myself if I could loose weight I would not need surgery. I understand the reason for loosing weight. It is better for me and my body on the day of the surgery. I am having this surgery because I can't loose weight. Thank for the support. Please send me the instructions on how you were able to loose weight for the surgery. Thank you for your time and God bless you.
