My surgery is Aug 3. I have put on about 10 lbs in the last month. How is everyone keeping themselves from gaining any weight before surgery?

I really haven't been doing anything one way or the other. I have been drinking tons of water, which once I get on a good water kick, and I quit drinking other stuff, water is all I want. I haven't weighed myself. I will be weighed for my 2 week prior appointment on July 23 and that will be my official weight. I'm also suffering from ridiculous back pain, so i am walking when I can to get the back pain out, but I cant do much. I wouldn't stress yourself about it, You are going to be stressed enough the first few days after surgery. Leland Lap RNY 08/04/04

My date is Aug. 2nd. I have managed to stay about 4 pounds below my original 1st weigh in. I drink plenty of water and walk alot more during the day. When at work, I try to finds reasons to walk to the other end of the building (factory about the size of 3 football fields). This has really helped me. The biggest problem I had was trips to the beach. I love shrimp!!! I mean I really love shrimp!!! I always eat exactly what I want when we vacation. But once I return, its back to water and walking. I am a human yo-yo!

I havent weighed myself but I wouldnt doubt I've put on a couple of pounds, those last time things you just have to have one more time before surgery, lol. I am going to go on the Atkins diet next month though before my surgery and try and lose a few pounds. Someone told me that going on that diet beforehand gets rid of fat around the liver and makes the surgery easier. Who knows but its worth a shot anyway. Patty

Audra, My surgery date is Aug. 2. I have put on about 4-5 pounds but I also had started exercising more and they tell me it is muscle mass that I am gaining. My Dr. requires us to start an exercise program prior to surgery to build muscle mass. Walking and building upper body strength is important. Drinking lots of water helps too. Good Luck!!! Cindy

I've gained 8 pounds. So what my plan is to work out 4 times a week. Watch what I eat during the week and on the weekends allow myself to splurge a little. The thing is I HAVE to lose these 8 pounds or my surgeon will not perform surgery. So I gotta do what i gotta do! Joy
