weight gain
I have gained back 25 lbs since my surgery. My lowest I ever got was 200 down from like 260. If I had to do it all over again I would do the RNY. Why? Because I like chocolate and its a lots easier to get that down than any other food and supposedly with the RNY you cant have sweets which I know now are a big problem for me. So if anyone out there is thinking that the VBG is better for them. Think again. If you like sweets and ice cream, you best think about the fact that those will become very attractive to you after surgery. They are smooth and easy to digest rather than any kind of meat, chicken, fish, or other protein.
I know that I have to get serious to lose weight so that I dont end up back where I started and I really dont want gain all the weight back that i had before the surgery. I dont want any more surgery. I most definitely need to cut out sweets period. No more chocolate, ice cream, or any other sugar. Im writing this to warn others that it is possible to gain back the weight and stretch out your stomach after VBG. If you chose it be careful, esp. if you like sweets.
Hey Mary!
I am 2-1/5 years out from surgery and I've started gaining weight too. I wonder if this is a regular thing for folks with 2/3 years under their belt. I know I haven't worked out in more than a year, so that has something to do with it. I really think we have to start focusing an losing again.
What do thing? Anyone else have this same experience after 2/3 years out from surgery?
Tracy
Hey Tracy,
I regained weight as well, I was 165 and got back up to 194. I started back with exercise which I had not done in a while either. I made a point to start drinking all of my water and I just decided to stop eating some of the bad things that I was eating. It has been hard and I've only been at it for 2 weeks, but I am determined not to go shopping for larger clothes. I am down to 186 and am determined to weigh less than 175 by New Years. I have to say though that I know that the exercise is paying off even if the scale is moving slow, because some of the clothing that was really tight is now a whole lot looser.
I do believe that it definitely gets easier to gain and harder to lose the further out you are, but I know that we can do it.

Hi Tracy,
Same here...
I was down to 5 pounds from my goal weight of 120 then leveled off at 140, now I am up to 154.5 !!!!!!! I also had many of my meds changed and the last 14 pounds have been in the past 5 weeks !!!!!!!!! ALL since a new med was added. Every time I try to talkto my MD about this all I get is don't worry when you stop thise med it will come off ! YEAH Right meds are what caused me to gain most of the weight I did have.
YES I do still exersize ( at least walk over an hour 3-5 times a week) drink a fair amount of liquids, ( not with meals) and I am on a good diet, (right now a High protien diet as I was getting ready for a breat reduction! ------> now that may be canceld because my weight is no longer stable for one year! ) still meaure my foods and still meet with my dietician about very 3-4 months. THIS IS SO FRUSRATING
I am not sure what to tell you except, go back to the basics.....
Does it help to know you are not alone?

I think it is part of the deal. The last year has been the roughest. Now that its been 3 1/2 years, my body has adapted. But I had the RNY and i NEVER dumped. I can eat a pint of ice cream with not repercussions. It is just like a diet now, I have to consciously make choices, and if I could do that before surgery, I wound have needed it to beging with !!! Hang in there with the rest of us, and we maybe can give each other support. All naturally "thin" people think that the bypass is the "easy" way out. They should walk a mile in our shoes Right! Good luck and happy hollidays.

423/240???? hopfully not 423 again!!!
I think the hardest part for me is that I really believed before WLS that I wouldn't obsess over my weight each and every day. I thought it would work and I'd not beat myself up daily about bad food choices or gaining weight. I still have these feelings each and every day. Don't get me wrong...I am so greatful that I had WLS but it's still a daily thing and I think I feel worse when I get offf course or haven't lost as much as I should have because I've had WLS and feel I've let myself down because I have the tools to get it right.

Glad too see I'm not alone in the weight gain department. I had rny distal in Aug 04 went from 398 to 219 in less than a year. Now 3 years out I'm back up to 300 lbs maybe more. Threw the scale away at 300 lbs.. Depression kicked in bad..I never had dumping with my rny, i never felt hungry nor did i ever feel full. I have started some research into revision surgery. Don't know if I will go through with it but it is in the "thinking process". And I DO NOT regret having my surgery. I would do it again in a heart beat, However I'm scared had a rough time from the first surgery and subsequent 9 surgeries after the orignal. Susan
my first surgery in 98 was the vbg and i had a revision in 04 my weight was 205 on revision date i went down to 118 and have gotten back up to 130 feel better there... went from size 18/20 and now wearing a 4 or 6 depends on the clothes...
but yes with the vbg you can eat slider foods and you dont dump...with the rny believe me i still dump even being 4 years out... if i eat too much sugar or fried foods i will get sick....
good luck
HI
my name is Lisa and I just read your post.
Please don't think this is stupid, but what is vbg. I have gained back about 40 pounds. Was 305 day of surgery and got down to 156. That was 12/05......Soon after that 12/31/05 I found out I was pregnant gained 49 ponds with the pregnancy and 2 years later have not lost any. Honestly I have not tried very hard. I diet lose some, then gain it back. I am so afraid to hit 200 again. I am very close. But I didn't know about any revisions after RNY. Thanks for the info. Can't wait to hear from you.
