So now that we have made it past the 2 year mark, Is anyone gaining weight? I HAVE ! I started at 205 the day of surgery, and got down to a size 8 at 123! Stil short of my goal but I was happy with the loss! My MD's have played all around with my meds.... first off all but my heart meds, and insulin, and then have slowly added them ALL back and then some. Since adding an insulin pump, my blood glucose levels have been great, but I nearly went blind because of the drastic improvement of the BG Levels. Now that has leveld out with only 60 % loss in one eye. I have been using fit day and my daily average calories run between, 775 to 1,050. with moderate activity. YES I exersize and eat the right sort of foods, and still follow the rules for GBY. It seems that the meds are once again adding on the pounds........ I am now back up to 150! and a size 14. I spoke to my MD's when I had went from 123 to 135,( all new as I have moved) and they think I am just being overly anxious about all of this! Going ahead with the GBY was not an easy choice for me. I fought my MD on this for two years before I attended my first pre-op group and then waited another full year (my choice) to make sure this was for me. Now I feel defeated and wonder how long it will be before 150 goes to 157, 162,172, 179, 182, 190,194,195, 200! AND THEN WHAT! MY BMI had been NORMAL and is now one the edge of OBESE again! I have an appointment with a dietician/diabetic RN in a week or so but I am not sure what she will be able to do to help. Is everyone doing OK? are you at goal? Lisa

Lisa, my heart goes out to you. Seems like the medication is making you gain the weight. I, at this moment do not have a problem with medications. I, fortunately am not taking any. I did make this terrible mistake of drinking too much alcohol in a party I went to. I saw some old friends I had not seen in years. I felt so good seeing them again that I forgot to take care of my stomach. It came back to bite me. I gained 5 pound in a week. By the time you read this message you have probably gone to the dietician. Let us know how did it go. I pray things work out for you. I can see what you mean by the weight going up and up. Hopefully other people that have had experinces with medication will post a message. We are all expecting you to post pictures on the message board soon. Keep in touch and take care.

I'm so sorry to hear about this! I'm also up like 20 lbs from where I want to be. I had a baby in July and was hoping to be back at my pre prego weight already, but I've gained 5 lbs since reaching my lowest post baby weight. I've also noticed that since I've put on the extra few lbs that my blood pressure is a little higher. So I'm hoping that with some weight loss that it'll get back to normal I can I can avoid going back on BP meds. Good luck though! Kristy DD - Alice Kay 7/31/06

Hi Lisa I have no idea what kinds of food you're eating. But are you doing protein and drinking water? A lot of meds make you gain, but then again, it's easy to gain after our two year mark. Here's what i would do. Load your body with protein, at least one shake when you wake up and one before bedtime. Drink lots of water to flush out your body. and don't forget to walk and exercise. Stay away from carbs for about a week too and see if you start losing again. If this doesn't work, go see your surgeon. Let us know what happens. Hugs, Linda

Hi Linda, Kristy, and Louis, Thanks for taking the time to respond. I tried to post a few days (weeks ago) and this computer kept frezing. MAYBE this time it will go through! Yes I saw the dietician and she said that because I am using the glucose better, that I am also using ALL of the calories I eat as well thus the weight gain. She didn't really have muchg more to say. She did say that I am doing GREAT intake wise as well as with my activity levels. ( I brought her all of my FITDAY reports) I am meeting with her again in a few weeks just for some support. She will talk to my MD about adding another med but with that means you need to eat at leat 300 CAL per meal AND 30 grams of carbs! As it is now I am eating between 750 -- 1,025 cal a day and about 130 carbs a day. SO not much help there. The MD there is a weight specialist and was outraged that I had had GBY. esp as I didn't have that much to loose ( less than the 100 ) He felt there were better ways to control the diabties than surgery. AT LEAST IN MY CASE. So for now I am trudging away................... Loius, for personal security reason ( job related) I wil never post photos or other personal information about me or my husband and children. I am glad you are all doing so well. Again Thanks Lisa

Lisa, I understand about the pictures. The most import thing is that you solve your weight gain problem. Can doing more exercized stop you from gaining more weight? You mention you MD was outraged that you had surgery when you didn't have much to lose. Who approved the surgery? Don't you have to qualify for the surgery? If you did qualify, than why is he complaining? Is 130 carbs a day ok? I'm sorry for asking so much questions. Your information can help many of us that might have your same problem or might have it in the future. Keep us in touch how thing are progressing. Good luck and take care.

Hi Louis, The (group of) MD I am seeing now is NOT the same as when I had my surgery, we moved, so I am with a whole new team of MD's. I did not have the 100 pounds to loose, only about 80 ( which is a LOT!) but I was approved because for the diabeties and other complications. The Diabetic MD I had then wanted me to do this at least 6 years ago! MY health insurance also approved the surgery long before I said OK, as did my gastro MD. The New Diabetic MD is a obesity specialist as well and he would have never approved me for the surgery, mostly in part because of the many stomach problmes I had pe-surgry ( and I still have them! ulcers and constrictions) In many ways I am glad I did not have him then. I am not unhappy that I had the surgery. 130 carbs a day for ME NOW is good! that goes with a diet of about 1000 CAL a day. As for the exersize! I am doing all that I can do with work and kids and family and all. I am very buzy, and get in at least a 30 min walk every day. I also do core strengthing exersizes and see a chiropracter and Physical therapist, as well as the dietrician. I keep track of all that I eat, as well as activity (on www.FITDAY.COM ) It seems that the weight gain is related to the meds I am back on! In a few days I will meet with the Psych see what she has to say. My PCP is great and seems to understand just jow much work WLS is and how deferated I am feeling with this weight gain and has increased my thryoid meds, even though the levels have been fine. We might even increase the B-12 shots to 2 x a month. I am glad she is not telling me not to worry about gaiing 26 pounds! Esp when my total WLS loss was only 68! Lisa

I have gained about 20 pounds of the weight I lost. I too am trying to figure out why. I know that some of my medicine has a little to do with it. I am struggling to lose the 20 pounds in fear of gaining any more.

I started at a weight of just above 400 lbs at 5'6. I got down to 250 and am now back up to 290. I feel like a failure of the surgery. I rarely even visit this site anymore because I feel ashamed. I am still much healthier than prior to surgery and I work a full time job, something I never could have done before but I have some complications and I wonder if I will regret this surgery some day. I have many more joint aches than ever before and also many muscle cramps that wake me up in the night. I also get stomache cramps that feel like someone is just twisting my intenstines. My primary care doctor has done many tests but doesn't find anything and thinks it is probably adhesions. he referred me to the local Gastric Bypass Surgeon to be tested for adhesions but he doesn't take my insurance. Cigna HMO. Does anyone know any other testing for adhesions that can be done with seeing a WL Surgeon? Thanks and sorry for the long post.
