I had surgery on the 19th of August and I have lost 45.5 pounds. I was worried I was doing something wrong but Dr. Zahn told me that since I was smaller going into surgery not to worry. Plus I have noticed that I have lost a lot of inches ... even on weeks I don't drop weight my clothes get bigger! Hang in there! We can do it!

I had my surgery on 08/12/03 I have only lost 53lbs. I was a little discouraged because I never eat. Now I am just going on exercising as much as posible and eating right. My doctor said that people all loose weight differently. Thats why we had to have the surgery in the first place! Hang in there you will loose the weight. Look at a 40lb bag of dog food that is how much weight you have lost in a very short amount of time.

Don't be discouraged.. any loss is good.. even if it seems like it is not fast enough it will come off. Just think where you will be in a year or two.. it will all be behind you. It is important to take advantage of the early days though. Make sure you are getting your protein in. If you do not get enough in you will not loose as quickly. You will loose some hair no matter what but getting your protein will help ..

Hi Sheri!
Congratulations!!! I also had my surgery on 8/6/03. Although I'm only down 45 lbs (I'm a slow loser and was considered a "lightweight" (yeh right!)--starting BMI 39, 210, 5ft 1in--Down to 165!) I still feel terrific mentally and my body image of myself has dramatically improved--isn't this the best?
I'm really interested in the eating habits of other post-ops. I feel like I screw up in my diet (a lot), not enough protein or H2O, eating "bad" foods, and not exactly sure what kind of vitamins I'm supposed to be taking (I haven't been asked to have any labs done). Somedays I get really light headed and weak. Does anyone else feel like this? I do really well w/exercising w/the exception of the light headedness. Please e-mail me, I'd be interested in seeing what someone's eating schedule is like and as to what other post ops eat on a day to day basis; ex. what you eat, when you eat it and when you have the opportunity to get in most of your H2O (I think I might be dehydrated)
Continuous Good Luck to all!
Thanks in advance if anyone can reply.
Trish

Topic: -60 pounds @ 10 weeks
Just wanted to post a message and let everyone know that things are going extremely well for me since my surgery August 18th! I've rarely been nauseous and am tolerating all foods well. (My first attempt with peanut butter was an experience, but that's a whole other story)
I'm much more active already -- am up to walking 5 miles 2-3 times per week, and am researching local fitness centers w/ swimming pools so I can remain active throughout the winter.
If anyone has any fish/seafood recipes you'd like to share, feel free to email them to me at [email protected]. (Please use RECIPE as your subject or my email filter will dump your email)
Thanks to all who continue to support me on my journey.
I love being a loser!!!

Hi Denise
I also had the surgery back in August, and have luckily done very well so far. But one thing that caught my eye about your problems is the hair loss. Let me tell you, my doctors insisted that I start drinking protein first thing once I could tolerate it to prevent hair loss.....and so far it has worked. I have very thick, long hair anyways....but I only lose a few more strands than normal now than I ever did. The protein really works, and my doctor recommends taking about 40+ grams daily.....I like Herbalife in Wildberry myself. A lot of it isn't too tasty. As far as the depression goes, I have dealt with that for years previous to my surgery, and my best advice is to go see a doctor for it, and get medicine if that is necessary. Right now I take my medicines in halves and in liquids since the surgery, but it's worth it to still feel good. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, and remember as long as you keep the hope alive you'll be okay. Just think about where you'll be a year from now! That always keeps me going.
