Faith,
I too have been concerned about my slow weight loss. I did well the first month and then began to slow. I have only lost 3 lbs so far this month. I have lost a total of 52 lbs. I'm just starting to lose my hair. I have learned that this may also just be a result of the anethesia, something that happens to many people who have had major surgery. In any event, keep up the good work. I know it seems like a slow road but I keep telling myself that before the surgery I couldn't lose weight at all and at least now I'm losing, not gaining.

Hi Sandi,
I had my surgery on 8/26/03. And as of last Tuesday I've lost 75 lbs. Congrats on your loss so far. I think your your doing great. My doc told me today I'm doing great with the loss. In regards to the water, try Dasani, Deja Blue, and smar****er is real good, and does not have that chemical taste.
Take care. Hope to hear from you.
Linda

Hi Sandi! I, too had a lap RNY on 08/26/03 and as of this morning lost 77 pounds. I usually eat twice a day and have been getting in about 500 calories a day. When I saw my surgeon earlier this month, he told me that I should be eating 800-1200 calories a day (at that point I was eating about 300 calories a day)! There is just no way that I can get that many calories in! So, on his advice, I have starting adding some carbs in the form of fresh fruit. By the way, I feel great and even though eating is no longer the pleasure it once was, I am so happy that I had the surgery. Good luck to you, Sandi!

My surgery was on 8-15-03 and I have only lost 50 lbs. But I am considered a light weight by the doctors terms and I will lose, but not as fast as others that weigh more. So don't worry, You r doing good. I have strands of hair falling out, but not any different than it did before surgery.

Topic: RE: WHAT DO YOU EAT
You're doing terrific Tracy. I had Lap RNY 8-8-03 and have lost 49#. I've been stuck at 218# for 2 weeks now. Typically I eat yogurt, cheese, deli sliced lunch meat (roast beef or turkey breast), chicken, shrimp, beef jerky, Joyride bar, UTurn bar or a Oneway bar, peanuts and lots of iced tea. I don't eat bread, pasta or rice and avoid most carbs and most veggies. I had a bite of broccoli and califlower earlier this week and ended up puking for 20minutes. I'm trying to get my protein in by eating regular foods instead of relying on protein shakes. Today at lunch I had 3 scallops and 1/2c split pea soup and one of them made me feel ill for about an hour. I don't really eat set "meals", I'm more of a nibbler except for lunch. I eat lunch and have 4 snacks the rest of the day.

Hi, my name is Sandi. I just found the message board for the anniversary months! I would have been here sooner if I had known it was here! I had a lap RNY on 8/26/03 with Dr. Bryan Freeman in Anniston, Alabama. As of 11/10/03 I am down 69 pounds. That doesn't seem like a lot to me with as much as I have to lose but my doctor says it is great. I do know I feel 100% better and can already do so much more than I could 2 1/2 short months ago. This surgery and my surgeon were a God send! Anybody else out there had surgery on 8/26? How much are you able to eat now? I use to have no problem getting in my water, but the past two weeks it has made me nauseated to drink it. I have been sticking to sugar free lemonade. I think it may be the chlorine in the tap water. I am going to buy me some bottled water and see if that helps. Any other August posties that would like to chat can e-mail me at [email protected].

Faith, I am really glad to see your post and all of the responses. It is encouraging to me also. I had my surgery on 8/19 and I have lost 43 pounds. I felt like that is nothing because I was comparing myself to others. However, my doctor gave me a good reality check. My health has improved dramatically. My skin is not sagging or leaving behind stretch marks because I am not losing too quickly. I'm convinced that, for my anyway, it is time for me to step up the amount of exercise I'm getting. Now I need a good dose of being able to stick to a routine. As for the hair, yes I'm losing a little too. And I DO take a vitamin every day. ...Ever the determined one (and my hair always having been my favorite body part), I have started drinking protein shakes for breakfast. I am also making a bigger effort to consume protein daily (through seafood mainly). My hairdresser put me onto some products that are supposed to be better than anything else for preventing hair loss and encouraging regrowth. It is too soon for me to report whether either will be successful. But, perhaps there is a method to the madness.... *lol* I figure if I do go bald that will open my world to new hairstyle versatility (via wigs). ; )
