Hi Tabitha, I had my surgery on 8/18 and I weighed 308 and now weigh 235 so I am going pretty slow myself. We have alot of weight to lose and some ppl lose faster than others. Just keep going to the gym, get more B-12 shots and keep eating like you are and the Plateau will pass. Take care and good luck, Geraldine

Hey Marika, I would increase your b-12 shots. I try to get one a week or every 2 weeks and I havent lost any hair yet. Also, take a good multivitamin such as Flintstone chewables, ppl laugh, but they work well LOL. Take care and good luck

I had lap RNY 8/12/03 and got rid of 70 lbs so far. My surgeon and dietician say that I am doing great. Now that I finally have my energy back, I feel great too! But my hair is thinning. Everytime I take a shower, a clump of hair is in the drain. Due to heridity, I was a little thin on top anyway, but now it's worse! Help!!! Any advise. I get enuf protein daily, but I alos take my monthly B-12 shot. Vitamins and calcium are hard to get in every day, I'm working on it. Please give me some encouragement. Thanks!

Mine was on 8/13 and I have only lost that much, but I have much more to lose. I don't know about your goal wt, but I'm 5'5" and mine is around 145-150. Keep the faith!

Hi! I had lap-RNY on 8/13. I wieghed 311 and now weigh 249/250. I had lost 55 lbs by month 3, but have only lost 5-6 lbs since. I eat three meals a day, sometimes a high protein snack. I try to get at least 4-6 glasses of water a day and have recently begun at the gym. Is this normal? I'm freakin' out, here! I think all of us at one time or another fear the loss is going to stop, and I'm there! Any help you can give would be appreciated. [email protected].

I just found the August surgery date message board. Rachael, keep working at it. I had open RNY 8/26 and have lost 57lbs as of today. I got stuck for the longest time at 47lbs until I made the commitment to go back to the gym. Once I started back, the pounds started to fall off. When I went in on 11/17 for an early 3 month follow-up, I'd only lost 44lbs. My surgeon said I was right on track....so I wouldn't worry if I were you. Different people lose at different rates. But I can tell you that exercise definitely helps. As for your hair falling out, it could be a lack of protein. Are you getting in enough? When you eat, do you get your protein in first? I know that as much as I was dying for some stuffing on Turkey Day, I ate most of the turkey first before hitting up the other goodies. I can't seem to handle protein shakes anymore, so I've been looking for protein-enriched stuff. I found that 1/3 cup of roasted soy beans has 11 grams of protein. They're crunchy--just what I need to satisfy my need for crunchy/crispy stuff! I've also been told that not getting your B12 causes your hair to fall out, so you you may want to have that checked. Good luck, Rachael. Just think of yourself as a work in progress and you'll be fine!! Freda

Topic: RE: Surgery Date 8/26/03
Hi, Sandi! I too had my RNY (open) on 8/26. I've lost 57lbs as of today. I'd been stuck at like 47lbs for the longest time but once I started back to the gym, the pounds started falling off! I was terribly nauseated for the first 6 weeks, and I thought I would just die from it. I couldn't keep ANYthing down! I had an endoscopy 10/16 and it was almost like night and day--the nausea was 90% gone! My surgeon thought I had stomal stenosis, where the esophagus becomes constricted by scar tissue building up on the outside. I can understand that because I couldn't have lap due to scar tissue from prior surgeries I'd had. As far as eating, I'm still eating a very little bit at a time. I can barely finish a 3oz can of tuna, and I only manage half a container of yogurt. I've just started eating salads, so I've been able to tolerate them with 2-3 small slices of grilled chicken--I eat the meat first so I know I'm getting in my protein! I've also started eating roasted soy beans--1/3 cup has 11 grams of protein!! I've been getting sick of drinking protein shakes, so I managed to find something different. My biggest challenge the past few weeks is trying to get the chewable vitamins down..it seems that lately I've been bringing them back up. Not pleasant! As for the water, did you try it with a spritz of lemon or lime? Sometimes that'll do the trick rather than having to buy bottled H2O. Hang in there, Sandi! You can do it!! Any time you need a shoulder, I'm at [email protected] other August post-ops, please join in!!
