Topic: RE: Really Depressed!
Kathy,
I too have only lost 65 lbs. since 8/26/03. But don't despair. Lots of people have told me that they were between 75 and 85 lbs. out at six months, so that's probably where we'll be too. I was on the lighter side too when I had surgery (266) which is some of the reason too. I was having the same feelings until I talked to otherd who had told me I was fine and my doctor was fine with my progress. Also, think of it this way, losing just a little bit slower may mean less saggy skin.
Topic: Really Depressed!
My weight loss is only 60 lbs since surgery. Boy it is so slow! I do everything. being 5 months post-op I thought I'd be down at least more than I am. is anyone having slow weight loss. or am I impatient?

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. This is a real life changer and as much as we think we want to change, when it does we still are not ready for it. How are you feeling now that the "holidays" are over? I was in a real funk because of the changes I was going through. I was missing the turkey and dressing, but I also lost my grandfather last spring and this was the first holiday season I was spending without him in 40 years, and I also had a second total hip replacement at the begining of December (2 days before my birthday ). I decided that even if I couldn't eat any of the "goodies" I was still going to do the things that make the season great for me and I still did my baking and cooking without tasting. Keeping your emotional priorities in order and not letting your emotional demons sabotage your progress is the best that any of us can do.
Topic: RE: WHAT DO YOU EAT
You sound like you are having a hard time with finding things that are going to work for you. I was in the same boat and then found that if I start the day with a high protien bar (Zone or Balance Gold are my favorites)and at least 16oz of H2O first thing in the morning, I had the energy to do something with my day. I have also found that I cannot eat any dry/stringy meat. I can eat about 1 square centimeter of beef and after that I'm going to pay a big price. I'm best with dairy protien so it's cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt for me. Tomato soup made with milk is also helpful. Good luck and keep up the good work.
Topic: RE: Question?
Just a question james,
How far out are you from your surgery that you can get all of that down in a sitting. I am out 5 months and only have 30 lbs to go but I takes me 4 hours(literally) to eat half a container of a small chili. I can't get harldy any meat down yet--red meat is a big no no with me! I think it's fab that you can eat that and still lose--just curious. (isn't it odd that we now think of a piece of toast or a chili with 2 pitiful crackers a lot now????? I still can't get used to that!)))

Could you imagine 5 months ago say,"I only have 29 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight?" You are doing awesome!
I started out at 274 and am down to 220. I had the lap band so things are going a little bit slower for me, but I'm still elated at what I have lost! WLS is great and I never thought it was something I would do!
Happy Anniversary and enjoy the journey!

Topic: Happy 5 month Anniversary!!!
I was banded on 8/11/03. I started at 274 and this morning the scale said 220.4 (every ounce counts!) I love my band and am so excited for my weight loss. It's weird to walk past the mirror and see a new woman! I love taking that 2nd and 3rd look and doing a little twirl! I see that a lot of the posts are from RNY patients. You are all doing so well! Congrats to everyone!
