Topic: Grazing!!!
I am 9mths out now and have lost just under 90#'s. My problem is GRAZING. I find that I "have" to have something to munch on all the time. I have a sit down job and the temptation to have something at my desk is constant. I am much happier now with the weight loss but very upset that I don't loose anymore. I have only lost aout 10 lbs in the past 3 mths and I know it is due to my grazing all the time. I try to pick out healthy snacks (like jerkey, pretzels, gum) but find myself sneaking in the M & M's since my body likes the sugar (up to a certain amt that is). Any suggestions on getting myself back into loosing and not grazing would be appreciated. I am thankful that I have not "gained" any weight, but know I have at least 50 more lbs to go to my goal. I started at 310 and am around 220 currently. Congrads to all of you who are doing so well. I hope to continue, and pray I have not screwed this surgery up with all the grazing.

I had my surgery on August 4th, 2003. I started out on at 322 and I am now 184 lbs! This has been the most amazing thing that has happened to me ever! I haven't had any Mutiple Sclerosis problems. All of my health problems are better. I was taking 3 blood pressure pills and now it is none. My thyroid pill has been knocked down in milligrams. I feel wonderful! Sherri

I've been told that to stop losing you reverse the rules - drink with your meals, add a couple of snacks a day (make them healthy). I truly believe that many of us are obsessive-compulsive - so we work something to death - whether it's overeating or losing weight. It will not hurt for you to try snacking a little in order to stop the weight loss. Anorexia is nothing to play around with - I've been there and done that. It sneaks up on you without you realizing it. So break the damn rules - start drinking with your meals which will flush out your pouch faster to allow you to snack a couple of times a day. Best wishes, Ro

Hey Freda, I believe there is a rule of thumb - it goes something like this: If you're happy with something you tell a friend, if you're unhappy with something you tell everybody. My point is that it is not surprising to me that so many negative experiences are reported. It is human nature to complain and try to get "revenge" if you're unhappy with the results of the surgery. Best Wishes, Ro

Hi All... Has anyone read the piece in this week's People? I find it quite interesting that the reporter would interview several people who had negative experiences yet interview only one whose wls was successful. Man, that just burns me up!!! I'm trying to read these things with a grain of salt but it seems it's getting harder and harder to do. Again and again I hear wls is a "tool" for weight loss. It's really up to US to keep the weight off using this tool. There is a subcontractor at my job who weighed 545 lbs and had wls 15 months ago. I spoke to him on Friday and he has lost 340lbs. To me, he's the one they should have interviewed. He's my inspiration. And while I only have 48lbs to reach my own goal, I've been taking my advice from him.

Hi Jennifer, congrats, I would eat 5 little meals a day or just add more carbs to your diet so you dont keep losing weight. My doctor also told me 3 meals a day only but I find myself eating little at my meals so I eat healthy things in between. You definitely dont want to lose more weight...You're doing awesome I have lost 120, surgery date was 8/18/03, I still have 33 more to go Take care, Gerri

I was hoping to perhaps find someone who is in the same boat as me so to speak. I had surgery 8/19/2003. I have now lost 136 lbs. The problem is that I am now weighing in at 117lbs. My last appt. with the surgeon was a couple of months ago. At that time he stated he wanted me between 133lbs-140lbs. At the time I was 135lbs. He said more then likely I would not lose any more weight and if I did I would only lose about 1/2 lb a month. Well I am still losing. My Dr. told me to only eat 3 meals a day. They have been very specific about that. They do not want post-op patients to get into the habit of snacking. Do I ignore this advice and add 1-2 snacks to slow down the weight loss or do I just wait and see what happens? I looked up a BMI calculator and I am not considered to be underweight unless I weigh less then 109lbs. However I am getting quite thin and my husband told me if I lose any more weight my head will begin to look bigger then my body. I even have a coworker that thinks I am anorexic which I know I am not. Any ideas? TIA Jennifer
