Topic: One Year Out...
My anniversary was this past weekend, 8/14. Thanks to all on this site who posted the information that was so helpful to me in making my decision to move ahead with WLS. Now it seems like a "no brainer", but back then all the unknowns made it a much more difficult decision to make (I'm sure y'all know what I mean At 298 pounds (5' 5" tall) I was on my way to a shorter-than-average lifestyle, and I was finding it more and more difficult to enjoy my favorite things, especially travel. Now I'm down 125 pounds and wearing a size 10...and happy to find that I usually have to tighten up the seat belt when I'm flying. The biggest change is that it turns out I like exercise...who knew? I do Curves 4-5x each week, treadmill at home, and head out on the bicycle for a good trip 1-2x each week. The cycling is a major step forward since I have Meniere's Syndrome, a balance disorder, and have frequent vertigo attacks. Staying on a bike is a challenge, but now when I do fall the damage is much less The other surprise of "one year" is that I sometimes (rarely thank goodness) find that I forget about the surgery when eating....and get surprised when I feel full so quickly, LOL. But I'm trying to stay more conscious, I don't think this is really a good sign. In closing, I'll also mention that I had a complication (bowel obstruction) that required major surgery 5 weeks after my lap RNY...and even with that I'd do the whole thing again! Maggie

Brynne, You and I have the same re-birthday! and like you, I'm not quite to goal. But I agree with you, we shouldn't beat ourselves up for it, we've come a long way in a short time. Celebrate what we have accomplished. And about the new noises......I too can make funny music, depending on what I eat too...and it always seems to sing at the most embarrassing moments - like during meetings, or when the room is quiet. But even with that, WLS has been the best thing I've ever done for myself,it saved my life, or should I say GAVE me a life Congrats on your 1st. yr. Happy Re-Birthday, Hope everthing else is just peachy for you. Hilda

Topic: WLS and pregnancy
I reached my 1 year milestone yesterday, and what an incredible year. Orginally had wls to conceive, and I ended up conceiving 4 months post op. (I'm 8 months pregnant now.) Feel so blessed, and amazed at this, as hubby and I tried for years to get pregnant. Keep in mind that with significant weight loss comes serious hormone flux for women as the body tries to adjust. I hit my goal weight when I was 4 months pregnant. LOL Now, I'm worried about getting back there once baby is born. Any other persons out there pregnant after a RNY????????

Topic: A new kind of gas?
Hi All, Congratulations on becoming 1 year. I join you on Aug 25th. Sure are a lot of changes in the last year. One sort of weird one is a new very loud gas...I think. Does anyone else get a rumbly tummy after eating? And is it loud? I mean people comment kinda loud. I seem to get it worst after any starchy carbs. I've done well; am within 40 lbs of goal! Was freaked when I realized that I wasn't going to make goal within the year, then, decided there were way to many other things to do in life then to worry about will I make goal before my year anniversary gets here. Progress is small steps. Brynne Aug 25, 2003 289/5'10" Pre op BMI 41 Today 184/5'10" Current BMI 26

Topic: Happy Re-Birthday To Me
Hi Amos friends Well... Right about now this time last year I was finishing up my nesting and anything else I could find to do to avoid sleeping..... I was eagerly anticipating my early morning trip to Chicago to have my RNY done by Dr. Daniel Deziel I was not scared(well... maybe a little nervous:angst)) because I was armed with a wealth of knowledge.... most of which came from right here.... From my pals here at AMOS It's been a helluva year ...Lots of things have changed and life is now fun again. I've lost 145lbs(from 316 to 174lbs) My surgeon's goal for me is 175lbs. I am shooting for 150-150 range but who knows?? I am healthier than I have been in years...I came through this surgery with flying colors as far as I'm concerned....In regards to total lifestyle change, following all of my Health Professional's directions to assure using my "tool" to it's fullest extent, My bloodwork had been great for the last year... I must be doing something right. I still write everything in my little food log every day to keep myself accountable......I am thinking about stopping this though...I just want to be normal and I know what I can and shouldn't eat. I get a minimum of 100grams of protein each day.... I start my day with a protein drink and the rest I get from food... I get a minimum of 66 oz of water each day.... I talk calcium CITRATE and a multivitamin each day.... for the rest of my life. I even *gasp* eat fruit I do all of this now like it is 2nd nature to me. Oh... and I have a BMI of 29.9 I'm just "Overweight" now..... All this after being SMO for more than 15yrs..... I never in my wildest dreams thought I could look like this...Sometimes I don't even recognize myself Blah Blah blah.... go read my profile if you want to see my whole story.... I'm going on with this long post..LOL Tracy Lap-RNY 8.14.03 -145lbs

Topic: I made it!!!! :-)
I can hardly believe I made it to my one year post op. The surgery for me has been nothing less than amazing. I guess I can count myself as being one of the lucky ones! I have made it through without any complications. Not to mention I have also lost a total of 150 pounds within the first year. For any of you reading this that have not yet had gastric bypass, seriously consider it! You will change your life completely! You will feel so much better, people will look at you differently! You owe it to yourself and to your family to take the next step! Good luck to everyone out there. I hope you are all finding this surgery as amazing as I do! Good luck to everyone!! -Monique
