My weight loss is only 60 lbs since surgery. Boy it is so slow! I do everything. being 5 months post-op I thought I'd be down at least more than I am. is anyone having slow weight loss. or am I impatient?

Kathy, I too have only lost 65 lbs. since 8/26/03. But don't despair. Lots of people have told me that they were between 75 and 85 lbs. out at six months, so that's probably where we'll be too. I was on the lighter side too when I had surgery (266) which is some of the reason too. I was having the same feelings until I talked to otherd who had told me I was fine and my doctor was fine with my progress. Also, think of it this way, losing just a little bit slower may mean less saggy skin.

For the longest time I questioned if I was doing something wrong ... I started out at 260 pounds and as of today I am down 72 (188 pounds). I just keep thinking of the long term results and I know right now I am so happy to be 72 pounds less!

Hey Kathy, I had DS surgery Aug 20 and am down about 60 pounds. I started out at 240 and am now around 180. I feel great and am eating pretty much whatever I want. I am pretty happy that the scale is continuing its downward trend but to tell you the truth I am glad the weight is coming off a bit slower now. I believe it is much healthier and also better for the saggy skin syndrome. I am also a bit older than some who have had the surgery...I am 48. Another thing to think about is that I was overweight for 20+ years so it is logical and reasonible for it to take more than 6 months to get down to my goal weight. Cheer up! It is happening and that is what is important. Try to focus on how far you have come and trust that you will get there eventually. It will feel just as good whenever it happens.

Well we are all in the same general loss amount so we all cant be slow! I think we are right on target, I have no complaints, I am too busy buying new shoes and looking at myself in the mirror lol. Here's some info from a chart I have that I posted in another thread: If you weigh between 200-250 lbs, 35-45 pounds after 6 months is normal. If you weigh between 250-300 pounds, 45-60 pounds after 6 months is normal. If you weigh between 300-400 pounds, 50-80 pounds after 6 months is normal. If you weigh between 400-500 pounds, 50-90 pounds after 6 months is normal. Hope that helps your perspective. I look at it this way, if I didnt have the surgery it wouldve takene me a year or longer to lose what I lost in 5 months.
