Hi, my name is Sandi. I just found the message board for the anniversary months! I would have been here sooner if I had known it was here! I had a lap RNY on 8/26/03 with Dr. Bryan Freeman in Anniston, Alabama. As of 11/10/03 I am down 69 pounds. That doesn't seem like a lot to me with as much as I have to lose but my doctor says it is great. I do know I feel 100% better and can already do so much more than I could 2 1/2 short months ago. This surgery and my surgeon were a God send! Anybody else out there had surgery on 8/26? How much are you able to eat now? I use to have no problem getting in my water, but the past two weeks it has made me nauseated to drink it. I have been sticking to sugar free lemonade. I think it may be the chlorine in the tap water. I am going to buy me some bottled water and see if that helps. Any other August posties that would like to chat can e-mail me at [email protected]. Hi Sandi! I, too had a lap RNY on 08/26/03 and as of this morning lost 77 pounds. I usually eat twice a day and have been getting in about 500 calories a day. When I saw my surgeon earlier this month, he told me that I should be eating 800-1200 calories a day (at that point I was eating about 300 calories a day)! There is just no way that I can get that many calories in! So, on his advice, I have starting adding some carbs in the form of fresh fruit. By the way, I feel great and even though eating is no longer the pleasure it once was, I am so happy that I had the surgery. Good luck to you, Sandi!

Hi Sandi, I had my surgery on 8/26/03. And as of last Tuesday I've lost 75 lbs. Congrats on your loss so far. I think your your doing great. My doc told me today I'm doing great with the loss. In regards to the water, try Dasani, Deja Blue, and smar****er is real good, and does not have that chemical taste. Take care. Hope to hear from you. Linda

Hi, Sandi! I too had my RNY (open) on 8/26. I've lost 57lbs as of today. I'd been stuck at like 47lbs for the longest time but once I started back to the gym, the pounds started falling off! I was terribly nauseated for the first 6 weeks, and I thought I would just die from it. I couldn't keep ANYthing down! I had an endoscopy 10/16 and it was almost like night and day--the nausea was 90% gone! My surgeon thought I had stomal stenosis, where the esophagus becomes constricted by scar tissue building up on the outside. I can understand that because I couldn't have lap due to scar tissue from prior surgeries I'd had. As far as eating, I'm still eating a very little bit at a time. I can barely finish a 3oz can of tuna, and I only manage half a container of yogurt. I've just started eating salads, so I've been able to tolerate them with 2-3 small slices of grilled chicken--I eat the meat first so I know I'm getting in my protein! I've also started eating roasted soy beans--1/3 cup has 11 grams of protein!! I've been getting sick of drinking protein shakes, so I managed to find something different. My biggest challenge the past few weeks is trying to get the chewable vitamins down..it seems that lately I've been bringing them back up. Not pleasant! As for the water, did you try it with a spritz of lemon or lime? Sometimes that'll do the trick rather than having to buy bottled H2O. Hang in there, Sandi! You can do it!! Any time you need a shoulder, I'm at [email protected] other August post-ops, please join in!!
