liquid diet before surgery
I start mine tomorrow also. I have been on a restricted diet of sorts for the past 2 months and after seeing the Doctor today, I am now on the liquid one. He said he wanted me to be hungry................... Everyone has to do it the day before, but I have because he wants to try and do mine lap. I lost 15 pounds the other way and I know I will lost a little more before my surgery date of August 15th.
I am not sure how I will cope though. I initially went on the liquid protein and was very sick doing that. I don't know if it was the "diabetic issue" or not.
Connie, I forgot the most important part. I was told that going on a diet shrinked your liver. The liver of an overweight person is sometimes a fatty one. The liver is one of the issues regarding doing the surgery lap from my understanding. I could be wrong about this. Ask your surgeon or his nurse.
The coping stinks though. It has taken me over 2 hours to drink my first glass of liquid protein without being totally sick. I ate 2 crackers early in the drinking process to help.
Good luck.
Tomorrow is my surgery date, so I have just completed 7 days of low-carb liquids. Dr. Atkins shakes, along with another brand, bloody mary mix (tasty spicey tomato juice), WATER, and some soups I found at a "whole foods-type" grocery store -- potato/leek, corn, gazpacho, and those fruit popsicles have helped me through it wonderfully. Have only been getting 500-600 calories per day, and averaging around 35-40 carbs. My surgeon said it is to shrink my liver. Good luck!
