Hi Karen!
I'm Brenda. Originally from IL also. I had my RNY in August of 2002 in MA. I now live in AZ too!
I would love some info on who you see for follow up stuff. I too am battling the anemia. I am not at the infusion stage and trying very hard not to go there.
If you have a moment to share, let me know!
Brenda

Elle, I just thought I'd check this board, not much activity. I'll be 5 years out on 8/22 and have done great also. I've gained 20 lbs in the past 2 years (since I moved back to NC and with my family all around me). I want to get those 20 off plus the 30 that I didn't loose to reach my goal. Everyone thinks I'll be too think at 160 (I'm 5'10") but I'd like to see what it's like. I enjoyed 177 and cant wait to get back down there. Anyway, I hope you're doing well and on the loosers bench again.
Take care! I'm at work so I better get back to it...

Hello Krista!
Actually, my doc in Joliet was Claudia Vera. She was fantastic! My doctor here in AZ is absolutely fantastic, as well! LOVE AZ!!! Keep in touch and let me know how you're doing!

p.s. Arizona is beautiful. We almost moved out there, too -- into the Gilbert / Chandler area, but I got preggers with my son, so we had to tell my husband's job offer that we needed more time -- they wouldn't give it to us so here we still are!

Hi. I am an old timer too I guess. Had my surgery 8/12/2002. I also had a baby post op. My son is 16 months old. My iron was low after having him, but I can't seem to get my doctors to get me an iron infusion and I don't understand why? How low was your iron before they gave you one and who administered it? Was it at your surgeon's office or another doctor? Thanks -- Kira
Topic: RE: Anyone developed Ulcers after Surgery
I had band erosion last summer and what my doctor's office said *might* be an ulcer 2 weeks ago. It was the worst pain I've had in my stomach since surgery and in the same area that I had pain with the band erosion. My surgeon's office just acted like, oh well, it might be one -- take the Carafate and Nexium, if it's still bugging you, we'll give you a script for a scope. Gee, I'm glad I drove 2.5 hours and spent $75 to be told that?! I asked afterward, why couldn't I have just called and had a nurse call me in a prescription if that's all I was getting? I don't know what's happened to Dr. Marema's office, and I don't know about you, but when I signed on for this surgery, they were all telling me how follow ups would be gratis, then they changed their tune a year or so back. All the people in that office have changed. The receptionist told me that it was due to the fact that they weren't charging patients like they should. I thought that was crap because they would have done so if they were told to, and I knew all those people, as did everyone that followed up at the Celebration location. All those people, ladies like Karen, cared -- many were patients of Dr. Marema's that had also invested their health in this procedure. It makes me wonder if there were other issues? Anyway, sorry for my rant. I am thinking of seeking a gastro. doc that is experienced with bypass patients because I don't think my doc can do much else for me. So far the Carafate and Nexium seems to help, but it seems like when I get a flare up, it is sudden. Does the Carafate give you the big D? I noticed that I get Dia. everytime I take it. Hope you feel better soon.
Topic: RE: (BAND ERROSION) PLEASE HELP COMPLICATIONS
I also had band erosion. My symptoms were pain and vomiting. I had mine removed by the gastro. doctor that did an endoscope on me. He just used a tool on board and snipped then pulled the ring out. I asked if that was the correct procedure, worried about the holes left behind. They said the erosion is so slow that it leaves scar tissue behind it, so they don't worry about it too much. Anyway, hope you are ok. I think that the band caused me problems from day 1. Once they took it out, I felt so much better.

WOW, it's been so long. I'm doing great. NO problems what so ever. I have had a 20 lb regain, but the doctor says that is completely normal. I want to get those 20 lbs off, but everyone said I looked too thin at that weight. How are all of you doing????
