Topic: RE: Suggestions and a plea for any info on jumpstarting weight loss!
Hi Kathy, I am 5'4" and started at 270 and am now 160. My goal is 134. I have gotten stuck several times and what helped get me going again is simply adding more exercise. I don't mean strenuous exercise, just more movement. I don't really exercise at all, but I went back to work and I go up and down a flight of stairs about 10 times a day and that just seemed to kick start my weight loss again. Also some people have suggested going back to the liquid stage of the diet again for a short time, I really didn't want to do that, but I was determined to if it would help, thankfully just a bit more moving worked for me. But hang in there it will happen and congrats on your success thus far. Leeann Norton 10 months post-op

Topic: RE: anyone out there losing more slowly?
Hi Vickey, I had mine August 8, 2002 and my weight loss has slowed as well. I'm 5' 4" and started at 270, I have lost 102 pounds. My surgeon tells me this is very normal. The more weight you have to loose, the faster you loose it, so now that our weight is down, we will loose slower. My surgeon also tells me over and over, because I keep asking, that it takes about 2 years to become what he calls stable, he says I will loose, not loose and possible even gain, and back around again before I reach this stage. Hang in there girl, it will happen for us both. Leeann Norton 10 months post-op

Topic: anyone out there losing more slowly?
I had my r-n-y gastric bypass on August 19, 2002. My weight seems to be coming off at about half the rate that everyone else has. I'm 5'8", started at 270 pounds, and have only lost 60 lbs. Is anyone else out there losing this slowly??

I love the anniversary memos. I like comparing! Unfortunately, I feel like I have come up short. I am delighted with my weight loss, but others seem to be doing much better then me. Congratulations to all! My suggestion on the site is: Please put your beginning weight, weight now , and your goal. Some do so and others put some of this info, but it will help to do this. Me: 298/198/140 or so! Also height would help to be able to compare as well as sizes. I am 5'5" and started wearing 3X and 52. Now I wear 1X or so and 20 - 22. It seems as though with 100 pounds gone I would have gone to a smaller size, but not! Now I need any info on getting my weight loss started again. I know it is slower as time goes on, but I have been at a stand-still too long. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any replys. Later, Kathy

Topic: I can't believe it has been almost a year!!!!!!
Just a little note here....It is a little over ten months since my surgery. I am feeling so good it is unreal.. I have gone from a size 22W to a 6 petite. That is good but not nearly as important as my health... My husband and I either walk or ride bikes a lot...I am so grateful to have learned about this surgery,, It was truly a blessing.. My daughter Wendy Law and I had surgery the same day,, and my other daughter Kelli Smith is scheduled for surgery on the 16th of July..2003..so it will be a great day for all of us then... bye for now... Like the terminator..... I'll be back!!!! Carol Gordon

Topic: 10 months later 14 sizes smaller!!
It has been an amazing 10 months! It is hard to believe that I ever was 427 pounds. I feel soooooo Good! I work out 3x a week and walk daily. I have gone from a 32 plus size to a 18. I have lost 145 pounds in 10 months. I don't sleep with my CPAP anymore and I am no longer insulin resistant, nor do I have to take medication for my cholestorol. I only have to take my supplements now. People that haven't seen me do not recognize me it feel so good to be alive again. I do feel have issues with sagging skin but hey I feel like a million bucks. I am so blessed and thankful that I had the surgery it truly saved my life. I have a ways to go still but I can cross my legs, sit in theater seats and effortlessly tie my shoes. I love the new me and it just keeps getting better. God Bless.

Topic: RE: Fellow August Member!
Hi, I had my surgery 8/7/02 and I'm extremely happy to say that I've lost a total of 113 pounds!!! My original goal was only 100 pounds but when I got there I decided that I could go ahead and loose some more and I have! I'm at 158 right now and want to go on down to 150 but if I don't, then I'm happy too. I never thought I'd weigh in the 150's again in my life!!!! Here I am almost 55 years old, will be this week-end!, and I look and feel better than I have in 20 years! What a gift this surgery has been for me. My health is improved greatly, I'm off all meds, my general since of well-being is sooooo much better! I look forward to trying on clothes, buying clothes, improving my looks every day. Life is just great for me these days!!!!!!! I, too, give God the glory for my surgery success and am sooo thankful for my skilled surgeon who operated on me, but I know that God gave him the ability to do this surgery and he's using that gift to help people who need it! Congrats to all of "us" August re-birth people!!!! Carol Pos-op 8/7/02 Dr. Antonio Williams Montgomery Al 273/158/150(soon, very soon!

hello "10 monthers", i'm right there with you! i had my lap RNY on 8-15-02 in hickory, nc and have lost 132 pounds so far and am in a size 10. i am 5 pounds from my goal of 170 lbs. i'm 5'11", so 170 for me will be GREAT! i, like both of you, have had a SUPER experience and am so thankful for the changes and blessings in my life now. i LOVE participating in life instead of watching it from the sidelines! and SHOPPING, i can't get enough of it!! LOL!! i finally figured out why, just yesterday... i told my husband that for so long, i would walk by "normal" stores and say "isn't that a cute outfit? but i know they won't have it in MY size..." BUT NOW, i can go into ANY store and buy any outfit (and i seem to be doing just that)! LOL and it looks the way i think it should look!! good luck on your last few pounds...mine are coming off VERY slowly now, but thats ok, i can live with it!! well bye for now! hugs -caroline
